A Landmark Legal Shift Opens Pandora’s Box for DIY Guns
Five years ago, 25-year-old radical libertarian Cody Wilson stood on a remote central Texas gun range and pulled the trigger on the world’s first fully 3-D-printed gun. When, to his relief, his plastic invention fired a .380-caliber bullet into a berm of dirt without jamming or exploding in his hands, he drove back to Austin and uploaded the blueprints for the pistol to his website, Defcad.com.
He'd launched the site months earlier along with an anarchist video manifesto, declaring that gun control would never be the same in an era when anyone can download and print their own firearm with a few clicks. In the days after that first test-firing, his gun was downloaded more than 100,000 times. Wilson made the decision to go all in on the project, dropping out of law school at the University of Texas, as if to confirm his belief that technology supersedes law.

It's only "worst loss" in a sense that at the time it was big deal, because most people didn't had education nor access to paper. Beyond the building itself, nothing of value was lost, as majority of the library was contemporary fiction in written form.

>It appears that the Second Amendment Foundation has reached a settlement agreement with the Department of Justice in the suit they filed challenging the State Department’s mandate that Defense Distributed take plans for 3-D printed firearms off of their website in the name of national security.
>Now, however, in a press release from attorney Josh Blackman, it appears that Defense Distributed and SAF have reached a very advantageous settlement with the Department of Justice. And the release contains this paragraph:
>Significantly, the government expressly acknowledges that non-automatic firearms up to .50-caliber – including modern semi-auto sporting rifles such as the popular AR-15 and similar firearms – are not inherently military.

This seems to have implications for the 2A, specifically, that it prevents any repeal of the 1930's NFA on grounds that a weapon is of military value to the citizen militia.

Even if you considered fiction valuable, there still was very little lost from alexandria. It was an amalgamation of works from all over the Mediterranean that were also in the city the writing originated from.
Nothing of value was lost because even the ancients knew the value of having a backup.
Alexandria actually was the backup, but the originals still existed. The only reason people still get uppity over it is because 'there might have been some awesome story/play about how greeks fuck each other in the ass then die 'tragically''

>Alexandria actually was the backup, but the originals still existed.
There is no such thing as an "original", the books were written on papyrus which lasts a few decades at most, they had to be rewritten every few years just as part of normal maintenance.
Also after the Arabs burned Alexandria, they went around the Mediterranean collecting books which weren't in the library and taking them to Baghdad, where most of the remaining books were destroyed.
The only books that survived were those that were friendly to Islam, those got translated into Arabic and stored in the greatest "muslim" library there (your shitty house of wisdom) but that was just a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of ancient knowledge that was stored in Alexandria.
Then a bunch of pissed off Mongols came down and butt raped Baghdad, throwing all their books into the river.
The burning of Alexandria is important because it is a SYMBOL of a chain of events started by Mohammed (piss be upon him) that destroyed humanity's connection to our greatest ancestral cultures.

No.
Despite earlier damage to the library, such as when part was burned after Julius Caesar set fire to ships in the harbour to repulse enemies who had cut off his forces, and other portions being damaged during retaliation against Jewish anti-Christian violence it's final destruction came in:
>642AD the victorious muslim general Amr Bin al-Aas talked with an Alexandrian priest, John the Grammarian, and learned of a priceless collection of 54,000 books kept within a library in the city. A faithful and conscientious lieutenant, Amr wrote to his leader, the Khalif Omar ibn al-Khattab, asking what he should do with the books. The response came- “If these writings of the Greeks agree with the book of Allah, they are useless and need not be preserved; if they disagree, they are blasphemy, and must be destroyed.”
>According to Al-Qifti, Amr obeyed without question. The vast rolls of paper and parchments were divided out among the city’s four thousand bathhouses, where they were burnt to heat the water. There were so many books it was said, that they kept the baths of Alexandria warm for over six months.
This was recorded by the Muslim historian Ibn Al-Qifti writing 500 years after the siege.
This event fits the islamic pattern of destroying other collections of "un-islamic" knowledge, such as:
>Nine years later after ordering the Library of Alexandria burned, Omar ordered the books of the Royal Library at the Persian capital of Ctesiphon in the province of Khvarvaran, in present-day Iraq to be thrown in the Euphrates, staining the river with ink for "a hundred paces".
>And in 1140AD, following the muslim sack of the Italian city of Otranto in July, 70 ships of the Muslim fleet attacked Vieste. On September 12 the Monastero di San Nichola di Casole, which housed one of the richest libraries of Europe, was destroyed.
>Nalanda library, India, by an army of the Mamluk Dynasty of the Muslim Delhi Sultanate under Bakhtiyar Khilji in c.1200AD. It is said that Khilji asked if there was a copy of the Koran at Nalanda before he put the library to the torch.

>Abd al-Latif al-Baghdadi (1162–1231) states that the library of Alexandria was destroyed by Amr, by the order of the Caliph Umar.[44]
>The story is also found in Al-Qifti (1172–1248), History of Learned Men, from whom Bar Hebraeus copied the story.[45]
>The longest version of the story is in the Syriac Christian author Bar-Hebraeus (1226–1286), also known as Abu'l Faraj. He translated extracts from his history, the Chronicum Syriacum into Arabic, and added extra material from Arab sources.[46][47]
>Al-Maqrizi (1364–1442) also mentions the story briefly, while speaking of the Serapeum.[48]
They state that "John the Grammarian" asked Amr to spare the library, and Amr contacted the caliph Umar for authorization. Umar replied that if the books agreed with the Quran they were redundant, and if they did not, then they were forbidden. Amr handed the books over to Alexandria's heated bath houses, where they were burned as fuel for six months.
Five contemporary sources, four of them Muslim disagree.
There were several times the library was partially destroyed by ACCIDENT, and repaired afterwards. Muslims were the last to destroy it, and on PURPOSE, after which it was never rebuilt.

There is currently no reason to spend thousands on a 3D printer when you could buy a Ghost Gunner with several partial lowers and parts kits or a small machine shop. This would create a gun that would blow all plastic shit out of the water in both performance and longevity. Only a complete and utter gun grab could take that advantage away, and that's more likely to happen to plastic guns than parts kits or partial lowers. Let's also not pretend like most of the practical 3D printed guns aren't dependent on a metal barrel and firing pin at the very least.
The plastic gun is not a practical means of armament. It is a symbolic statement, a rise in the low-water mark for the right to keep and bear arms. The fact that anyone could make and carry a rudimentary firearm with no experience and very little money is the whole purpose. All it takes is one shot to kill and it could come from anywhere. It is not designed to be an every day carry, it is designed to make tyrants think twice.

Just lowers. For the US.
Then similar, in other jurisdictions! Surely there are some parts easily come by, and others not, in other countries!
But of course, the Holy Grail is the whole fucking gun.
But I think that drones with rockets are formidable. Like as in a DJI-sized drone, with hobby store motors.
And all this bullshit about guns is so weird, since we all know the Manchester attack wasn't a gun.
PEOPLE DON'T BUILD GUNS, IF THEY CAN'T BUY THEM
They build something else. And you know what they build.
My opinion is that the semi-auto grenade launcher would be every soldier's primary weapon, inside of 2 years of WW III, probably sooner. There will always be value to 1 bullet 1 enemy, a fantastic economy, but it's as stupid a fantasy as marching into battle, lining up, in beautiful wool suits, to unleash volley fire without even taking cover yourself, as you receive fire. It's basically, "gee, wouldn't it be nice if it only cost 1 bullet per enemy soldier?" Yeah, it would. Even better if both sides agree to line up and get it over quick as possible, so the commanders can get back to their bragging and whoring.
So we need to be pushing destructive device licensing. I know, full 2A, no exceptions, except the exception is all those goddamn faggot kikes in the courts, which means you have to find strategies to expand not rights…
…rights don't exist…
…but to ease procurement, and reduce the political risk associated with possession (ie reduce it to near nil, by establishing easy cheap licensing).

Yes. There are many ways to do such things, and likely some to be discovered. You could, for example, set as "fixed" certain words, and then use deep learning to generate the filler words (make it into a poem or prose).
8^)
They never care. They say, "yeah, but you're just doing that because". They are idiots. Trash. Midgets of mind entirely. They don't even comprehend that nobody takes intentions as a basis, because intentions are speculative, in most cases.
d8ce1a No.598718
You would want to talk with a gunsmith to insure that the right information is put into the song/poem in a way that is understandable by other machinists. The decss haiku works because software already exists as written text-only instructions, and the poem is just that with the addition of meter.
A 3d model or machinist diagram is different. You would be better off creating a series of paintings or artistic sketches that outline everything a machinist would need to know, but with some artistic flair to lend credence to the idea those diagrams are art.
I think a good goal at first would be to describe the concept of a firearm generally in a poem, with particulars focusing on the chemistry, and then later move on to showing the particulars of a specific firearm.

I am not describing stego. I'll give you an example of this poetry scheme (did you know that much of poetry is really a game, not unlike this at all, and that this is a legitimate form of poetry?):
I don't know G-code… so I found an example. This scheme shall have to be thorough, but it's doable, OK?
I FUCKING KNOW MY SHIT, SO LISTEN UP!
Suppose this is the code (it would be more lines, but I shall use but 2):
G0 G90 G40 G21 G17 G94 G80
G54 X-75 Y-25 S500 M3
So we have the following:
>> one or more of the following, per line:
> a letter
> a number
> maybe a minus sign
Now, that's doubtless an incomplete description of g-code, but it shall suffice for demonstration (again, I know my shit, so sit the fuck down about it not being complete - completion is in the cards):
> Each paragraph of poetry constitutes a line of g-code.
> Lines of poetry are free-form, artistic
> But punctuation delineates each letter-number pair of g-code, such that:
>> the first word in a segment shall correspond with the letter
>>> however, certain small words are permitted (ignored) (eg. the, in, a, of)
>> the penultimate word of the segment shall correspond with the number of the g-code
>>> this is done for artistic reasons, freedom of the final word should assist commonest forms of poetry
How shall we have numbers become words? Simply by the Major System. You can read about the Major System, which is a way of converting numbers reliably to-from words, on Wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mnemonic_major_system
(there are sites that can aid in conversion. Example:
https://major-system.info/en/
)
OK, to make our poem. Let's see that g-code again:
G0 G90 G40 G21 G17 G94 G80
G54 X-75 Y-25 S500 M3
For God so frogged the world
That Zeus he, or good Odin's piss raining,
Us graciously as the rose provided,
Gimbal skies scores of
Workers in their neat duties.
In great communion from prow of lion-sun to desert dust tick crawling,
go pair pendulum-swings,
grow ever more things by opposing as in fizzy sodas.
This gregariousness is found in the lair of,
xerox the cool thought,
a year only waiting,
some kommando bent o'er patterns loses sleep,
maybe crafting mad designs.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Since there are doubtless a limited number of letters used in common g-code, one should permit other letters be used, and there are many more games possible here, such as considering the possibility of a final letter counting as the letter, in certain cases, but I don't think many poets are into g-code, or computing generally, so there's little point making a game of this. And /k/ doubtless is, shall we say, not into such tootie fruity things as poetry.

(there may be other errors, but hopefully you get the concept. I am a bit tired, and cannot be bothered going over the scheme - after all, if people choose to make it reality, the software can automatically verify a match between the poems and the g-code, if they don't manage to make it work with ai or whatever).

If you're doing CAD/CAM then most software packages have a utility that will spit one out once you've set up all the operations. If you're trying to be really fancy you can model any workholding fixtures and it will include it in the printout, but most shops just take photos.

This not true either. You can sell or transfer a homemade firearm as long as you inscribe it with identification markings(similar to what's required for commercially produced guns), what will get you in raided is unlicensed commercial manufacture and sales/transfers. Most of the 2018 DEFCAD files can be found in this torrent. It's missing the .223 and .308 80% lowers and the ghostgunner files, all the complete firearms are there (AR15, 1911, 92FS, 10/22, Vz58, liberator).

You may be aware that if you have designed gun files you can sell them on DefCAD. But it turns out that they're going to launch 2 other parts of the site. This could be very useful for people /k/ommandoes:
1. A library
2. Engineering education help of some type not yet outlined
I'm hoping (2) consists of Ma/k/erSpaces.

How well would 3d printing a rifled liner and using a pipe or tube bar stock work for barrels?
3778fb No.606382
>>606376
I think there's some risk that the plastic might break, in such a way that it bent in on the liner, causing a partial obstruction. But maybe not…
I think there might be a way to make a barrel through the use of other non-metallic parts. This is in the area of "materials science". It's a huge topic. But I think it's doable, but it's kind of exotic engineering. Where, PRECISELY, are the forces acting on barrels? And can the gun design alter that?
As an example, there's a type of gun that is effectively open on the back side. While you might think it wouldn't work, it does work, it just has way less power. As an advantage, though, there is way less strain on the gun!!!

I was thinking of a 3d printed metal liner.
3778fb No.606384
>>606383
Present metal printers just print molds. You manually pour into them. Therefore, thin things like barrel liners are out of the question. However, there might be a novel technique for making them, and who knows? Maybe you'll think it up. Here's something I don't know, and what might give you some ideas: How are barrel liners manufactured?
9e9312 No.606454
>>606383
Better off buying tubing and making a rifling button. You could theoretically sinter that tubing, but it's not going to be reliable. Where you could find major materials savings is in what the liner presses in to. Much easier and less suspicious to get thin metal tubing than to get stuff thick enough to make a mono-material barrel out of. Some of the current 3D printed designs use a polymer barrel with a steel liner.

Of course the underaged girl was a setup, that doesn't mean he wasn't soliticing for sex, and he should have known better. He's talked in depth about being a "player" in the past, describing the event (before the news broke) he said it was an "own" rather than as a complete fabrication, and he's never shied away from that environment. He's apparently fled to Taiwan https://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local/crime/article/Controversial-Austin-man-behind-3-D-printed-gun-13241265.php (archive.fo isn't working for some reason) to possibly escape US extradition, which doesn't help him or his case look good.
He spent all this time building respect, building infamy and more importantly building cases under the image of a fearless 2nd amendment advocate with a lot of integrity. And all of it's thrown to the wind because he can't keep his dick in his pants.

Actually, from twitter, here's something more damning. "Sanjuro", the username he used to (allegedly) solicit this broad, was also the exact same name used in an "assassinations 4 bitcoin" deep web scam site. Both Cody and "Sanjuro" spouted similar lines about crypto-anarchy and the latter made off with around 1.3 million dollars from gullible people's bitcoin donations early this year.
If that part's a setup it's an awfully specific one, the media hasn't picked it up yet and the site didn't generate a lot of attention (no CNN or FOX coverage) when it was live.

The suits are Defense Distibuted's, 2AF is just providing legal support and some funding. Cody, Defense Distributed, and the suits are all tainted now, which is the exact desired effect of this little smear campaign.
I have no doubt a man like Cody would be naive enough to be on a natural high after his win against the State Dept, thinking he's big shit and could do whatever he wanted, but this shit is just too fucking convenient for the feds and talk about fucking lightening speed for municipal-level law enforcement.
