Last week a missile had a hangfire aboard a German vessel. The missile did start it's engines, but it never left the tube and burned out. The warhead did not explode. Nobody was hurt or injured.

Translation:
>During a missile firing aboard the frigate "Sachsen" on the 21st of June a malfunction occurred: The engine of an anti-air missile burned off shortly after firing, without the missile leaving the starter. The correct and swift reaction of the crew brought the situation under control immediately.
>"We stood in front of a flowing and glowing hot wall of fire", Frigate captain Thomas Hacken, the leader of the unit traaining off the coast of Norway reported via telephone.
>The Missile of type SM-2 (Standard Missile 2), was fired from it's container in the vertical launch system immediately in front of the bridge. Facing the danger of the fire spreading on the upper deck the crew reacted fast and correctly. The fire sprinklers too immediately started putting out the fire.
>At first there were two "stress injured" soldiers. Both are fine now and resume normal service. There is however visible material damage to the vessel.
The Air-defence-frigate "Sachsen" safety [sic, probably meant "sich" instead of "sicher"] at the moment with the submarine hunter frigate "Lübeck" north of the polar circle in a test and training area of the NATO-partner Norway. After the incident both ships returned to the Norwegian harbor of Harstad.
>"We must train close to reality, so that we are ready to defend our country and allies in case of a real scenario", explained the inspector of the Navy, vice admiral Andreas Krause. This would bring calculated risks, as the incident aboard the "Sachsen" illustrated. "Nevertheless our crews are highly motivated to give their best."
>Krause is relieved, that the crew, despite the highly unusual scenario, is fine, as the captain of the ship, frigate captain Mirko Wilcken, was able to report already.
>Previously to the missile launch there had been no hints at technical defects of the launch system. The missile too was previously inspected and was in "einwandfreiem Zustand" (meaning that no one objected, not that it was perfect). The crew of the "Sachsen" will evaluate the damage in the harbor to find the cause of this incident and make a guess at the scale of the repairs necessary.
>Before the missile was launched there were no hints at technical defects of the launch system [they are repeating this paragraph almost word for word]. Another missile of the same type was previously launched off the "Sachen". The missile too was inspected and was in "einwandfreiem Zustand". The crew of the "Sachsen" will evaluate the damage in the harbor to find the cause of this incident and make a guess at the scale of the repairs necessary.
