no because every company that has excess profit would either sue you, lobby to have you banned, or buy you out. the situation is already such that its impossible to get licenses or contracts for a defense industry startup.

not to mention corporate taxes, which destroy little companies. ever notice how the number of companies in general decreases, and the size of the few that remain get bigger? the reality of corporate taxes means that eventually there will only be one company in the entire world, providing every service.

Corporate taxes don't apply to a company that isn't a corporation. Typically, small businesses are not corporations because you need to make around $200k income to be eligible to be taxed as an Inc.

I'd say probably 99% of small business is LLC partnerships and sole proprietors .

Corporate taxes just make corporations into tax collectors, in the same vein of sales tax. When a corporate tax is established corporations just increase prices corresponding to the lost profits.

<200k is a completely tiny mom and pop business, which might get away with corporate tax, but they have the burden of local business taxes. A slightly larger corporation escapes local business taxes, but has to deal with corporate taxes. Only massive internationals escape both.

Yes but in order to have the ability to just increase prices, they need to command a large portion of the market. If someone is in walking distance offering a better price, you can't exactly use that tactic.

I've been thinking how a not-for-profit firearms manufacturer would work. I suppose it would be like a regular manufacturer but all profits would go towards R&D, increasing production and educating children about firearms.

Generally what happens is they throw about a hundred lawsuits at you, they pay off a congressman to throw a roadblock in front of your project, and when you're about to go bankrupt because you can't make your interest payments… they swoop in and offer you a life raft in the form of buying you out at 40% less than your market price was back before they started fucking with you.
