Dailymotion has some tech issues. Youtube has some political issues.
There is a serious difference, Youtube bandwidth is essentially infinite Dailymotion isn't, they need to throttle at times.
Dailymotion knows pics of activities and popularity (basically every-time YT does something stupid) making it way harder to plan it's infrastructure without bankrupting them.
It's why Youtube cannot die and any alternative cannot rival them, they have a de facto monopoly because they grew at the same pace of the internet and has had enough investment allowing constant growth in server space (which is then compounded by the fact that Google actually own the infrastructure they're on) and is something lawmakers should actually force to break under existing anti-trust laws.
