Albert Johnson:
>Northwest Territories, 1932
>Guy comes into Mountie station at Aklavik for supplies and doesn’t get a trapping license. Has a sort of Scandinavian accent
>Months later, Indians report that a white man has been sabotaging their traps.
>Constables try to talk to him, he won’t say anything. Never spoke a word after the meeting at Aklavik.
>Mounties get a search warrant. When they try to open Johnson’s door he shoots one of them.
>Mounties organize possee of Mounties and native trappers
>These guys are the best in the great white north
>They fire at Johnson and nothing happens so they decide to pull a Waco and blow up his cabin
>Thinking Johnson is dead they approach the remains of the cabin
>Turns Out Johnson built a fucking BUNKER under his house and was now laying down serious fire at the police.
>After 15 hours in -40 degree weather, the Mounties fall back.
>When they return, Johnson is gone, they pursue him with men on foot and in the sky
>They catch up to him and he kills one of the Mounties. He escapes
>Realizing he is heading for the Yukon, the Mounties block off the trails heading there, Johnson decided instead to walk over a 7,000 foot mountain
>The eye in the sky, Wop May, notices that Johnson has been able to escape because he has been blending in with caribou herds and following their tracks.
>Mounties catch up to him and he wounds one of them, but while escaping is shot and killed.
>When searching his corpse, they find he was taking pain pills for his scoliosis. Yeah, this guy who had burned 10,000 Kcalories, who had travelled 85 miles in 3 days in the arctic in winter, who had climbed over a mountain to elude Mounties, had scoliosis and a foot that was longer than the other.
>Also during the chase, Johnson had never spoken a single word, all they heard was a laugh from him after he killed the Constable. Johnson’s identity to this day is a mystery and nobody has ever found out who he was or where he came from. “Albert Johnson” isn’t even his real name.
tl;dr: A man who went into the wilderness, alone, built a cabin with a bunker, wounded numerous police and killed one with a perfect knowledge of tracking and marksman techniques fights Mounties.
To this day, people still debate if Johnson did anything wrong or if he got Waco’d by police
