Anyone know what insect this is and should I gas it?

>be a month ago

>start building a trail bridge innawoods

>returned this weekend

>these fuckers are all over it

>don't see them anywhere else only on the boards

>no signs of insect damage to the lumber

>high concern about insect's affinity for construction material

I considered making a light pass with a flamethrower but that could become very counterproductive. And no idea which pesticide to use.

It's a sminthurid springtail, also known as earth fleas. The best known sminthurid species is a pest of legumes so unless you grow beans I doubt it's a reason of concern.

here's more of a side view but that's all the pixels as my phone camera will squeeze in, and any closer it can't focus

they're only 2-3mm in size

If you want to handle similar problems in the future, get some Seven insecticide.

Strong shit, can get it pre mixed or if you have a sprayer you can get the concentrate. Don't let it near your pets and wash your hands after using it. But its very good at killing nasty bugs.

>not using self made insecticide

All you need to do is take some salt, make it a wet and rub it on the wood. The salt will stick to the wood (as long as it doesn't rain) and any insect that crawls across will salt itself to death. You may attract deer or goats though (which is a plus if you want to hunt deer).

I don't think that's an insect, I think that's a relative of the Turk.
