>Houthi rebels have released video they claim shows the exact moment they shot down Royal Saudi Air Force F-15S over Yemen. The Iranian-supported militants appear to have at least tracked the jet using a repurposed FLIR Systems Star SAFIRE sensor turret, which features an infrared camera.

>On Jan. 8, 2018, the Houthis released the infrared video footage, which shows the FLIR Systems logo in the frame, via its Al Masirah television network. A separate statement from the group's Saba News Agency says their forces shot down the aircraft with an unspecified surface-to-air missile. The complete video also shows the sensor turret on an improvised ground mount. The F-15S fighter appears to increase speed and releases decoy flares before a projectile hits it, appearing to cause significant damage. The fate of the pilots is unknown at this time.

>Houthis shoot down F-15 the US sold to the Saudis using FLIR the US sold to Yemen

Got my fingers crossed that the missile was US-made too.

Too bad their story constantly changes from shooting down a Tornado, to damaging a f-15, to shooting down a Tornado and injuring a f-15.

>mfw pretty sure I was building the circuit boards for those cameras back in May/June for a FLIR/Quantum Imaging contract

It doesn't it's the journalists that are making their job as usual, they shot down a Tornado and fire at a F-15. They never claimed anything else.

The F-15 was either extremely lucky or it's pilot extremely good (mercenary?), it fled at full afterburner then it jettisoned it's fuel tanks at the last moment which created a burst of flame causing it the missile to detonate early and allowing the plane to continue with just shrapnel damages.

That looked like a hit from the ground but it's just an extreme close call (but the houtis didn't claimed they shot it down, just that they had a cool video of KSA pilots running for lives).

Also it doesn't look like a MANPAD, it's probably a jury rigged AA-10 Alamo to be launched from the ground, the houtis are quite apt at re-purposing older munition (most of their ballistic missiles are jury rigged SA-2).

At this point all of these proxy wars are giving us more data what a US civil war would look like than what a RED/BLUE scenario would be.

I'd hazard a Merc. I remember reading about the Saudi air force not being able to field enough pilots and having to rely on western sources for most missions.

Is that tornado morrocan? It has the flag of morroco on that wing fragment.

When you get help from the Iranians, it's pretty easy to pull off.

That's some Macross type skills that guy had however, most likely a Mercenary.
