>Sir, the enemy has fortified their position, and even though we outnumber them 2/1 our advisors says that attacking a fortified enemy position up hill would be suicide, no matter what they are armed with. What should we do?
>we will just walk up the hill slowly and in tight formation
>Yes sir!
two minutes later
>Sir! The enemy is using some sort of magic to cast explosions on our extremely tight formations of heavy infantry, they also appear to be able to shoot tiny arrows extremely rapidly! What should we do?
>STAND CLOSELY IN THE OPEN!
one minute later
>Sir! The enemy has eliminated roughly 50% of our troops so far. All our air cavalry is dead and gone! What should we do?
>KEEP STANDING IN THE OPEN!

It had a decent concept. but instead of going all military otaku on it, and allowing the enemy to come up with concepts like guerilla warfare (as seen in the Philippine wars) and see how the JSDF comes up with concepts to use their modern armoury in new and creative ways, like strapping claymores to the shields of allied melee troops and having them literally explode any enemy they come into contact with, or having to increase the sensitivity of heatseeking missiles so they could track dragons and other living beings that don't shoot out gases at thousands of degrees out of their asses.
They could have done so much, but in the end it was just the same few modeled scenes over and over, combined with only one big battle, and one small engagement with raiders.
