Im using a Soft case for my rifle, but it is pretty barebones and I can only carry the actual gun in it, no ammunition.
I use a shitty hard case for my handgun and its so small i can only fit one extra magazine in there with it.
My shotgun is in a glorified sock that is tied off at one end, and has no place for anything resembling storage.
This is why i use a gym bag to transport everything else i need for shooting. If i am throwing clays, for example, I have my hands full with the shotgun and the thrower, while my bag is full of the clay box and the boxes of shotgun shells.
Rifle/Handgun range shooting tends to have the bag filled with 9mm and 7.62, paper targets, and anything else i might need.
Not to mention, i store most my ammo and accessories in my bag when off the range.
I shoot at a DNR range because its the only free range available to me, and i don't have the land to make my own or the money on had to afford a gun club membership and shoot. If i try to take more than one trip for setup, i'm likely to have my spot in line stolen or the bench plucked out from under me.
The range officer is usually just setting in his car (No actual building for him to be in, its a pretty barebones range) and doesn't do shit to stop that kind of stuff, so I've learned to cope and be able to carry everything at once.
