>Iranian officials said they could takeout U.S aircraft carriers by landing helicopters with commandos on them

What is this? 2005 Battlefront 2?

File: 8770539b973cfd0⋯.jpg (125.84 KB, 1200x455, 240:91, 1200px-British_Submarine_H….jpg)

If you can take out the defenses that would prevent you from getting a helicopter on it, it would be a feasible option. But if you can do that you should just sink it all the way.

Maybe they have some super stealthy jap-tier submarine with helcopters in it

Ah, but that is the trick, you see. The cargo containers … they are empty!

20fb17 No.533064

With the astronomical price difference between a cargo ship and a battle ship, I'm honestly surprised no one is employing the zerg overrun battering ram attack tactics.

27c513 No.533067

>>533064

I'm pretty sure that, despite the best efforts of various defence companies, a single anti-shipping missile is about 10 times cheaper than even a bottom end cargo ship. Even if the US didn't have a lot more money to burn than Iran they could just launch a spread of five ASM at each ramming ship and still come out ahead.

The true question is how many years apart are we from the point when the diversity quotas make that possible.

20fb17 No.533080

>>533067

Yeah but, they only have so many missiles available. Pretty sure it's easy enough to amass more ships than enemy has missiles. Even if you sink ten of your ram vehicles to sink one enemy ship, that would still be a good exchange.

well

actually, how many small arms should be present on a carrier?

fa806e No.533092

>>533085

Better question, how many of the crew can actually shoot said small arms? I'm guessing under 4%, and there wouldn't even be enough guns to go around then.

Repurposing firefighting equipment as quasi crowd blasters would probably be much more effective.

Do you sincerely believe that it would be possible to fire every single missile in a countries entire inventory based off of a single motorcycle pay phone call? Do you believe that the navy would sit by as a suspicious conga line of heavily listing fishing trawlers sail into ship after ship at 30 knots and explode one by one? Do you honestly believe that the goal of a wargame is to "win" and not to test strategies in a realistic scenario? General Ripper exploited the AI that would never target a civilian ship and did not play the role of an Iranian commander. I doubt any small boat would be able to get anywhere near an entire fleet on open sea because its just plain suicide but without taking the enemy with you. Absolutely no cover or concealment to speak of along with crews that are trained for exactly that type of attack. And that's before you get into CIWS and automatic three inch guns.

He's right though. AI is accurate in the sense that it's a rts game essentially and the units have certain traits programmed into them. I'm not familiar with this incident but I've absolutely seen bullshit like this that opfor thinks is so clever but totally misses the point of the exercise.

The teleporting bike thing is half-true. From what I remember the wargame didn't actually support couriers and such, so instead opfor simulated them through time-delayed phone calls.

Meanwhile blufor was using an actual exploit the whole time to teleport ammo directly into their destroyers' magazines, but nobody talks about that.

well considering that we are living in a world where china managed to move half of their industry inside country using only donkeys and mules then yes, i believe it would be possible

if it is american navy they wouldnt sit by, they would just ram them

Also the nuclear reactor needs to be refueled every year - world's absolute longest a nuclear reactor went without refueling is 2 years.

Did China do it all in one night? I doubt that.

>collision at sea meme

Yes incidents involving single ships that were not in formation, not on alert and being crewed by a night skeleton crew of retarded climbers that thought they could impress the captain who was in bed by doing maneuver exercises is exactly how a carrier group sailing into an invasion would behave.

And what part of any of Ripper's strategies were actually feasible in the real world? Do you not believe that people are able to think and identify threats and patterns? Do you think that you can mobilize every single ASM in the country in a single night? Use your brain for once instead of your europoor little man's syndrome confirmation bias.
