What you need is good cardio so you won't collapse in the sun, decent upper body strength so you can actually lift whatever needs lifting, and legs capable of sprinting if required. 99% of the time in combat you will either be laying on the ground or running at sanic speeds, so be sure to be able to get up and down fast, even with your backpack on. Try to avoid putting stress on your knees while training this. There are certain techniques developed during WWI and WWII for infantry to jump from low cover to low cover, which are designed so you can keep your gun ready, won't tire, and always have an eye on the enemy. Try those, since they were developed by people who actually took part in fighting.

Even so: 20% of time spent in war is time spent asleep, 30% is walking, another 30% is sitting on your ass waiting for orders observing the terrain, 10% digging and entrenching 5% cleaning guns and maintaining equipment, 3% banter with the mates, %1 masturbating and 1% combat, so

Legs are literally one the most important component of your body. Not your fucking ass.

There is this saying : "A fighter is as young as his legs".

Legs strength is very important because it's your base. The stronger it is, the stronger your attack will be, and the more stable you'll be. I'm not even talking about running, which is a vital skill.

Arm's muscles are actually the less strong muscles of your body. You have to train them, but it's not where your real strength is.

Training 6-packs is another retarded thing to do. You have to train your whole trunk.

Anyway, just read fucking book, and train yourself.

You're maybe talking about body regulation. To what extend you train yourself, do you train if your body is still tired etc… (in survival, you'll go to the maximum extend). If you really train, you'll touch these limits. And you'll know that your body is dropping adrenaline, that makes your body less feel the actual damages. That's why you're pretty ok at the end of a very heavy training, but the next day you feel a lot of pain.

But never ever count on motivation. Motivation is something that last one, two weeks. Only remain a strong well done program and good habits.
