This. The battle for wikipedia was fought around 2010 and lost by the good guys. In the end the website owner Jimbo sided with the freak shows, when the opposition literally sent a hooker to his apartment with a list of ourguys IP addresses on a CD for him to autoban. The only people who survived the purge were trolls with shifting IPs, all my friends got nuked including apolitical people (train hobbyists). His wife dumped him over it but it didn't bring our guys back, and their marriage was already on the rocks anyway. I got nuked as well and only recently got posting access to wiki back, because my IP was static.
I think at one point I made an analysis of posting patterns by certain users (this was before bots) and their posting patterns showed a 24/7 nonstop contribution, about 10-50 edits per hour, with regular pauses in contribution every 8 hours. As an example the dips in posting were something like 11:41GMT then 7:42GMT then 3:41GMT. The most famous users, the biggest SJWs, are literally teams of half a dozen people making edits routinely in an office somewhere with an 8 hour schedule.
And these kind of large and "respected" posters form alliances and opposing factions. Now ask yourself what kind of organization has funds to create a character and feed it three shifts of man hours? A company might buy services of a "marketing" firm to do that, but the most likely culprits are governments. No one else has the money.
