Yeah, no. Teachers aren't exactly given a whole lot as far as I know. My community college instructors only make a small amount more, than high school teachers from what they've told me. However, the cost of living here is much lower than California in general, so even if you decide to work in Boise and you're single or have a small family (and I mean small), you'll defiantly get by better than most people. In fact one of my instructors owns a large chunk of land that he shoots on. If you do decide to come here though, avoid Nampa. It's a Mexican cesspool. Parts of Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Mountain Home, parts of Emmett, and Cascade are perfectly fine though. Or if you're feeling adventurous, head up to Stanly for some prime camping in the Saw-tooth Mountains.

Colorado's nice. We got the Rockies if you wanna go innawoods, we got the military if you want to try and get a cushiony position somewhere when SHTF, we generally don't have too much weird shit lurking around, and other than Denver, the gun laws aren't as bad as /k/ makes it out to be (you can own high capacity mags/bring them in from out-of-state while claiming you owned them from the start because there's no registry in-state. 54/64 county sheriffs have all stated they will not enforce the magazine capacity ban unless, and I believe they're still filing a class action lawsuit against the state legislature to get it overturned since everything else is moving towards a pro-funs environment in-state. Tenth circuit turned it down last year because they didn't have "evidence of harm" because none of the sheriffs were enforcing it, but they also overruled the Denver courts meaning it's still up in the air and another class action lawsuit is possible. The Colorado Constitution is quite clear about even ATF and CBI background checks being illegal).
Really if SHTF, Denver will go down within a month tops, the Springs will probably survive because of all the AnCaps/Minarchists and Military presence, Pueblo will still be Pueblo, and the biggest threat will be a nuclear bomb getting launched at you at which point you're dead anyways.

I can't really speak for all of Texas cause it's so large, I know that you'd want to avoid anywhere East/ North east of Dallas county. Ft. I know that Pantex is at Amarillo so there's that if you don't want to get nuked. I can't really say much else because I'm a cityfag sadly.

My Grandma was there when Salt Lake City was a po-dunk little town out west and built (yes, built) her home in Sandy. Ma' was raised out there as well until she was in her late 20s. The LDS church will take in just about anyone, but they're really big on records-keeping, and will hound you as a church member if you don't conform/donate either money or man hours to church charity work (they wouldn't let my grandma/grandpa get married in the church unless she quit gambling even though she only gambled about the modern equivalent of $50 once a month and typically broke even or even won money when she did). My mom got food from them once when my dad lost his job, and the bishop had a written log/record specifically for our family where he pulled up shit like the last time she went to church, rumors from other church members, etc. They help their own, but they expect you to contribute and they expect your to conform to the church if you're gonna claim status as part of the church.
If you're not a church member (like me), they generally turn the other cheek so long as you leave them alone/don't interfere with the church, they'll even help you with job hunting at LDS businesses and such because even a non-church member can be productive to them unintentionally, but expect missionaries to stop by your house at least once a week trying to convert you, even if you live in the middle of bum fucking nowhere. Otherwise they aren't so bad. Biggest issue with Utah is most of the good land is already owned by the church or the government that's in bed with the church, but there's hills, greenery, etc. Just stay out of the desert and take the roundabout through Wyoming if you're coming in from the East. I70 isn't a bad road, but it's a shit show. I'd imagine the church would take over and become more puritanical like they were in the 70s/80s if SHTF, but they'll be well prepared to become an independent country while annexing Western Colorado/parts of Wyoming, and the state itself is definitely safe to be in if you're out that way- just be prepared to give up alcohol and possibly tobacco if you don't wanna live innawoods.

I grew up in a Mormon family, and most families tend to keep to themselves. However there are some militant missionaries out there that will not for the life of you, leave you the hell alone. Like Jews, they'll call the non-believers "Gentiles" and look down on you for not conforming. Just don't be confrontational with them, because I have seen church owned vehicles follow people around towns because they're loudly anti-LDS. I've never seen them hurt anybody before, but they do run their own little intelligence agency, to keep tabs on members and some non-members.

On our own we are extremely self sufficient. Our state government would probs be able to handle it's own skin for a few years with the funds we have in our state bank.

The real problem for us in SHTF, is that the Golden Hordes would come from the east, and would attempt to steal food from us, and we would not be really able to sustain any war effort against them unless it's in the winter.
