Seriously? Why are FN fags are so excited? There a better chance of the army adopting the HK417 than the SCAR H.

The US army is ditching 5.56 and are re-adopting 7.62x51, this was pretty big news when it was announced, lad. For some reason Americans can't get their head around the idea of intermediate cartridges. First .280 and now 5.56.

Because we aren't Muhreens. SCARs have a sort of 1337 flare to Army. 416/7 is Department of Navy shit.
Because SCARs are already relatively prolific. Would be easier to get through the buckshit which is the US Militaries arms acquisition process.
Because FN still wants that nut. US Military bux is no small deal and losing the Modular Handgun System to Sig probably hurt them.
Because it's already in SOCOM use. 15 years ago, we'd say we'd never see SOPMOD like shit in general use, which is what our current literation of the M4A1
pretty much is, minus the suppressor.
MOST IMPORTANTLY US Army wants it's future funs in fde

Nah, we surplused most of them off already and they're outdated, if we did go to a 7.62 rifle, it would be an AR-10, probably an LMT of some sort since we already have existing contracts with them and have already done a bunch of battle-rifle/DMR trails, determining that the LMT is the best of the ones currently available.

In theory, it isn't. But we abandoned the concept after World War 1 because people realized that shooting faster is better and that not everyone is proficient enough to be a marksman.

>then whats the point of having designated marksmen?
Having longer barrels and more precision.
Every LMG MK.48, every GPMG M240H/L, every gun SCAR-H with TPR version (which PR say is 1 MOA at 1000m, every marksmen become a sniper. Sniper stay in .50 cal as HMG) for marksmen and variable barrel length for infantry depending the environment they're in.
Two types of rounds for every small arms from tanks to soldiers… the second type being very specific and nowhere near as widespread.
The main reason to switch from 7.62 to 5.56 was the ability to fire full auto/burst for NATO conscripts… Today all the militaries are professionals that NEVER use those mode of fire, because control and shot placements are always more important than volume of fire… except with a MG (and replace every SAW by a MK 48 and you will never have to worry about being outgunned).
