.223 Rem/.556 NATO should be a pistol cartridge. Prove me wrong.

>.223 normally has a momentum of 3 NS-3.5 NS

>.556 normally has a momentum of 3.5 NS-4 NS

>Both have about half the inertia of 9 x 19

>For comparison, 9 x 19 has a momentum that ranges around 3 NS

>Both have an easily manageable pressure considering their small volume

Seriously though, what am I missing? If the logistics wouldn't work for a semiautomatic pistol because of the grip having to be too wide, there could be a revolver.

Barrel length. Once you get down to handgun size you aren't doing any better than existing revolver cartridges and you're shooting a smaller bullet without the benefit of hydrostatic shock.

I must point out again and again that they did develop a pistol cartridge from it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.221_Remington_Fireball It's 11.3mm longer than 7.62 Tokarev, so the grip would be wide, but I guess it could work.

Lots of them cropping up after the pencil-pushers in the USMC started pushing for standard issue 7.62 Anti-Air rifles again. as well as the release of Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, where the /v/ermin whine about stopping power

0c7f61 No.512149

There are already pistols chambered for .223. The huge amount of unburned powder that hits the air when the bullet exits the short barrel causes a muzzle blast that is extremely unpleasant. In low light conditions, it is outright blinding. Putting rifle cartridges in handguns is the kind of thing that only sounds cool to people who don't really know what they're talking about.

b6d647 No.512152

In hindsight, this was a stupid question and I forgot about barrel length. This still didn't make me change my mind on the cartridge being shit, though.

3452d3 No.512154

http://www.sadefensejournal.com/wp/?p=1093

Here's part of an article about what happens when you shoot a .223 out of progressively shorter barrels. From a 5" barrel (standard service pistol length) they only got around 2000 fps. The uncorking pressure was around 20,000 psi, though. That's almost twice as high as the pressure blast from a 10.5" sbr-length barrel, and those are already horribly loud.

This is similar to the AMT Automag III. It was a 1911 chambered in .30 carbine with a 7" barrel. The muzzle blast from one of those puny little rounds coming out of a 7" barrel will literally distort your vision, but there's very little stopping power to show for all the noise.

3452d3 No.512155

Flash hiders are pressure-dependant. They work by giving hot, high-pressure gas enough room to expand and cool before hitting outside air that it is no longer hot enough to glow. If you start with gas at a much higher pressure and temperature, then slap on a stock A2 flash hider, it's not going to do you much good. For something like a .223 pistol, you'd basically need a supressor.

Too long a cartridge to fit within a comfortable grip; other pistol cartridges are shorter so they can fit within a grip you can reliably grasp without looking like a tool, and the only pistol .223 would even be suitable for would be a revolver.

3dd83f No.520924

Honestly, I would have forced NATO to ditch 7.62 for a 6 to 7mm cartridge.

5.56 is a nice replacement for 30 carbine.

I suspect that a ballistics nerd very high up has attempted to move the entire US military back to .308, then move it to 7mm-08 because it's stupidly easy to convert.

The 5.45x18mm is the best pistol cartridge ever invented. Enough energy to go through 40 layers of kevlar and a human body, almost no recoil, compact package that lowers grip size or increases capacity massively.

>>512203

Bad Dragon used some really bad materials back when it started. I bought a horsecock and after a particularly long session it gave me a rash. Yeah it's possible just overusing it and overstretching (it was a record night with 2.5 diameter and almost 8 in me) was a huge part of that, and they've improved since, but I'm still afraid to buy.

It's more like a Russian version of .22TCM, slightly smaller because the basic assault rifle cartridge is slightly smaller.

In terms of comparison it acts like a .25ACP with armor piercing ability and about twice the penetration in flesh. In other words its superior to 9mm. In fact all of the guns that use it have a simple modification to .25ACP and are exported as such Not that .25ACP or 9mm are bad, I'm just saying this particular cartridge is superior.

Pic related is a gun that uses it which carries 24 cartridges, compared to similar size Glock 17 which has only 17, in other words 30% more bullets per gun. That means carrying 1+1 mags, instead of 1+2.

Police requirements for a cartridge are ability to penetrate door and windshield of a car, which this meets. FBI requirements are 11 inches in flesh, which this exceeds. It makes a hole roughly the same size as any other pistol cartridge, so it's just as lethal. FBI also complained about kick from .45 and 10mm, they claimed lower rate of follow up shots. The only requirement 5.45x18 fails is overpenetration. But that's a gay requirement anyway, an officer should pay attention what he's shooting at. It meets all the relevant requirements while providing more capacity and less kick, it's superior.

I'm not seeing how it would be negative. Maybe some small dimensions can be re-worked to make it more useful in the west, but it's pretty damn good.

I'm not bragging just explaining why the toy was damaged. And I seriously doubt America has no one that buys from BD, considering its a US based company and didn't even export at first.

1de194 No.521224

Oh it's also near subsonic, and very easily convertible to a pewpew.
