There's no discharge in the war!

Okay nuclear war is coming. What gas mask do I need to buy?

I'm a poorfag btw.

56677a No.510154

>>510149

Just loot one. After the nukes fall you have to wait 2 months in a bunker. If you don't you'll just get cancer and that's all. Quite a problem later on, but a gas mask alone won't help you anyway. You'd need the proper equipment to get rid of radioactive particles on your clothing.

1fe53b No.510159

>>510149

Gas masks alone won't help you in a full blown nuclear war.

Because there will never be a full blown nuclear war, but small contained nuclear explosions at high priority targets, or some good old conventional warfare with a little bit of chemical, and even less nuclear mixed in, get yourself some industrial standard gas mask with ABEK filters and some P ones mixed in.

>gas mask

What do you think this is, STALKER? Fallout?

7a27a0 No.510189

>>510149

You do not need a "gas" mask for nuclear contaminants, you need a dust filter in order to prevent radioactive fallout from entering your respiratory symptom. a full body/head coverall similar to a MOPP suit is also recommended to ease fallout policing and prevent direct contact skin burns due to alpha rays.

PLEASE keep in mind that there are several hundred things more useful and important to research for surviving a nuclear event than just face kit. do you know the basics of sheltering from fallout for example? or what to do when you see the flash??

b16827 No.510342

Full face sealing respirator with particle filters, and a Tychem suit with a hood, gloves, boots, and duct tape should prevent skin contamination, but you need a way to cleanse everything after excursions from your bunker.

9e11e1 No.510344

>>510189

>or what to do when you see the flash

From what I know, if you've seen the flash it's too late to do anything.

7a27a0 No.510350

>>510344

That's not true, because of how large even small nuclear explosions are the flash often extends well beyond the initial fireball and vaporization zone, while this flash can cause blindness and skin burns it is still important to seek immediate shelter from the pressure wave as you have, based on data from the Japanese bombings, a reasonable chance of surviving the pressure wave if you duck and cover. Admittedly if you're too close to a direct target you're fucked.

please keep in mind that while a nuke is horrible, it's still just a bomb on a larger scale. The primary killing method of an explosion is not the fireball in which death is instant.

>What do you think this is, STALKER? Fallout?

NBC masks and suits are used to prevent inhailing of radioactive dust into your lungs, clothing, and skin. They dont stop radiation like they are lead anon. You dont want a radioactive environment also following you into your radiation free bunker.

c3d71e No.510352

>>510350

Yes, but how well will a blind man fare in the aftermath of nuclear strikes on the West? Even if you survive the pressure wave, it's still not unreasonable to say it's too late for you at that point.

7a27a0 No.510354

>>510352

Blindness only occurs with "prolonged" eye exposure. you do infact have time to protect your eyes from non-temporary damage provided that you know what to do and dont end up staring at the giant second sun effect. i will concede that humans have a tendency to look at big awesome things, so it will likely be hard to look away.

in regards to it being too late for a blind man, you're probably right. but this thread isnt about that, it's about someone who is actively trying to not die. even if you are temporarily blinded, even if you are permanently blinded there is no "game over" in real life, you have to keep trying to live especially since the blind find it much harder to commit sudoku.

c3d71e No.510356

>>510354

>i will concede that humans have a tendency to look at big awesome things, so it will likely be hard to look away.

I've always wondered how many casualties that specific impulse would cause. Not from the flash itself, but because even those who didn't see it directly will be tempted to look out a window and see what's going on, just in time for the shockwave to hit and fill their faces with the window glass.

The best modern analogue we have to a nuke is Chelyabinsk, and that was definitely a factor, since a majority of the injuries were caused by glass and there are confirmed instances of duck-and-cover training preventing injuries.

7a27a0 No.510357

>>510356

I think with something like a nuke it will depend on the mental culture of whoever experiences it. if you look at tsunamis for an example of this, most nips when confronted with a tidal wave run instantly whereas there is fairly infamous footage of holiday-makers in the south pacific simply watching they wave come to meet them until their end.

in short, i imagine a great many people will die because they just don't know better than to gawk.

You're not gonna riot in the streets are you? :3

But yea, they should work fine. I think 3M makes a cartridge specifically for that, the CP3N.

Something like this works too https://www.amazon.com/ReadiMask-with-Integrated-Eyeshield-Yellow/dp/B01G260640/ Or you could just use a pair of swimming goggles and shut your mouth. These will not work for tear/CS gas however.

eb2045 No.511961

I'm not planning to riot, but if antifa comes to town I don't want to get taken down by pepper spray. I have an old czech gas mask, looks 90's or something, I'm clueless on this sort of thing.

26556d No.511995

…yes, use the filters and suck up all the radioactive dust so that it sits right next to your head and emits radiation as it decays. Excellent idea. Wrap a damp bandana/rag around your nose and mouth if you have to go outside, don't stay outside long, and discard it as soon as possible.

Or, you know, just gtfo of the fallout zone.

>use a less efficient rag on your face because it can be discarded and doesn't protect your eyes

Smart thinking dumb ass.

It's too bad gas mask filters are permanently attached and can't be removed or replaced just as easily.

I'd much rather try my luck breathing in moisture from the damp rag over my face and nose, which things I'm not even trying to breath in will stick to in a post nuke environment.

I can just imagine breathing deeply through all the caked on dust.

26556d No.512011

You do realize that radiation is energy, right? As long as you're not breathing in dust… or more importantly, letting radioactive material ACCUMULATE right by your face, you're doing pretty much all you can do.

Gas masks filter particulates, e.g. chemical and biological hazards. So…if you want to just burn through your filters every hour or so because you're sucking radioactive dust into it, have fun. I'll save that gear for the appropriate threat.

>still ignoring all the downsides to having a damp rag on your face and more surface area for dust to accumulate over to hinder breathing

>gas masks aren't appropriate for stopping particulates and dust

>gas mask filters only last one single hour

>there wont be any other fumes and toxic things in the air during nuclear fallout that a simple damp rag over my face wont protect me from

>towels and rags that are actually cheaper than spare gas mask filters are totally going to be finely woven enough to stop particles and dust without hampering my breathing, just like they were designed to do.

Sorry but I'd rather spend the extra 2 bucks on a replacement filter for a gas mask designed for the job that actually covers my entire face instead of a bunch of hand towels I'm going to just throw away.

If you're so set on it, have fun. Perhaps I wouldn't have twisted your panties so much had I suggested a surgical type mask, or some such type of disposable that can be bought in bulk. Rags of various sorts tend to be readily available, which is why it seems more appropriate. At best, a gas mask is overkill and causes more discomfort than you need. At worst, you're collecting excess radiation within your filter and essentially wasting it. I would recommend taking potassium iodide pills, they're likely to be a lot more effective than anything you can wear.

That sounds like a bretty good life if there are still things to shoot, since you could STALKER until you eventually die from radiation or just becoming the last an hero. The world is already hell in more ways than one and having all the illusions put in place over the last few centuries stripped away would be quite nice for one to live out the rest of their lives truly peacefully.

Preferably something that's surplus, can protect me from NBC threats and also dust particles when Mt. Fuji blows.

An expensive mask with many many cheap filters is literally the best option to go for.

Prove me wrong. Pro tip: you can't.
