Lad. Drop the defeatism. A Section 2 certificate is extremely easy to obtain, unless you've got a disqualifying criminal conviction or serious mental health issues. Get out for the weekend and down to your local clay-shooting club for a few lessons. I'd recommend skeet or sporting targets; whatever you prefer. You'll have a cracking time, meet decent people, and set yourself well on the way for a licence application.
Start with a basic sporting over/under 12 gauge, and then buy a pump or semi-auto (3 inch chamber minimum) for some rough shooting, lamping, or wildfowling Or SHTF
If you want to step up to a firearms certificate, get involved with the UK NRA. Do their probationary courses. This gives you serious weight for your Section 1 application.
The UK will only un-fuck itself firearms-wise when more fellow bongs become firearms owners. Thankfully, this number is increasing each year. Make the effort and apply. And good luck.
