Bring your hands up with the right hand higher up and gripping over his right, and the left lower with the left thumb wrapping underneath, compared to the pic. At the same time move your body to the right and redirect the gun to the left. Then, move back and "peel" the gun towards the outside of his hand.
Experimenting with my own arm, it feels much easier to move the arm and wrist and to break the grip when you do it in that direction. I'm pretty sure this hand placement would also give you more leverage on the gun when you try to strip it. The muzzle's movement would also be confined essentially to one plane, instead of bringing it both around sideways towards their chest and then over to strip it, so I think with those two factors the outside method would give you better muzzle control. Between that and the reduced reliance on brute force I suspect this would give you better muzzle control than that pic. If you fucked up I think you could very easily end up with the gun pointing back at you in COA 3. The outside method does have the disadvantage of not having the muzzle pointing at the bad guy until you have control of the gun, but I don't think that would outweigh the other effects.
