Doesn't savage have bad QC? I remember seeing a hickok 45 video, I think it was hickok 45, where he was shooting a savage firearm and it had really nasty mold lines that weren't removed. What this feller said.

Though, with some commercial ones, you can get away with a good rifle fairly cheap.

Universals before the serial 5000 were great(made on all IBM parts other than the receiver, which was made from the original print), I have one in the 3000 serial range, paid 400 for it. The only problem was the rear sight wasn't staked.

Did that, took it out, and it shot great, I was blowing away shaving cream and watermelon at 100yards with my dad and grandpa.

That was a great summer.

Anyways, I would completely and whole heartedly recommend it as a fun gun, not something to go to war with.

Local 'gun shop' **(it's attached to a used car dealership, if that tells you anything)* has a sporterized Winchester 1917. Image related is representative of its condition. Thinking about getting it as a restoration project.

Pros:

>Seems to be all original and intact except for the cut down stock and missing buttstock/barrelband/handguards/nosecap

>Winchester guns are the rarest of the three manufacturers

>Winchester actions can be rebarreled easily due to the thicker actions

>I can pick it up for next to nothing

Cons:

>Original Winchester parts are thin on the ground.

>Ditto with original intact stocks from any manufacturer

>Getting a new duplicated stock and handguard set would cost more than the rifle.

Henry is better but none of those fags ever thought to make an updated version with a loading gate at the receiver as you still risk setting off cartridges loading them in at a 90 degree angle, and have to reload by bringing the barrel down to you all because of muh history. mean while Mossberg makes a nigger tier leaver gun chambered only in 30-30 fuddchester that can be decent when you go over it with sand paper or pay someone to do it, in which case you end up spending a fuck ton. Capacity on the lever gun plus the magnum pistol cartridges have a lot of potential in long guns . Almost bought a Winchester 94 in 30-30 last week. Looked up the serial and turned out it was made IN 1964 but all cost cutting was relegated to the model 70 and the bad press gave the 94s a bad name. in the end I decided there were better uses for 350 bucks right now. I've got an itching to try loading lead spitzer style rounds for 30-30 or .44 to see how they fair accuracy wise in a rifle. Was gonna load one in the tube and one in the chamber

It's vaguely accurate out to about 30 feet, but some models allow you to adjust each barrel from left to right.

Baikal construction is on-par with early 1900s US double barreled shotguns - that is, kinda crap and holds up to the yearly range trip of the typical 9-to-5er. Try to push it and you'll start experiencing problems, "rusha strong cheeki breeki xD" maymays be damned.

The .22 compact had a defective barrel where a bunch of pitting showed up in a line straight down the barrel, which eventually shredded part of the crown. I contacted smith and they paid for shipping to them and replaced the barrel on their dime. But they kept one of the tools that came with it, and put the barrel nut on backwards. Now it comes loose every time i shoot it and i don't have the tool to tighten it.

The 9mm CORE had pitting on the barrel block out of the box, i ordered it online so i know for sure it was not a gun store handling issue. It now ALSO has a chip in the firing pin channel that i am watching closely too make sure it doesn't become dangerous.

tl;dr

smith shit is fucked

As for a cz i want something i can easilly get replacement parts like springs for since i shoot a fair amount.

Babby's first gun I'm thinking. I like the Mossberg ergo much more than Remington, and I am willing to spend more for better durability and build quality, so I'm looking at the 590 over the 500 or Maverick.

I figure I'll install a ghost ring sight and maybe a heat shield. Are those any good? They look cool at least.

I guess the big question here is whether or not the higher cost of the 590 is worth it, compared to the 500.

It's compatible with standard AR-15 uppers and magazines.

It's very easy to keep it 50 state legal.

The sporter stock doesn't trigger peoples' and jurors' "baby killing military weapon" programmed revulsion reaction.

Air guns need barrel length to achieve sufficient muzzle velocity.

Cutting the crown into a pseudo-blade will only serve to make your already neutered gun unable to hit the broad side of a barn.

The only possible scenario in which this might be useful is if you're a nigger shooting another nigger in the back of the head at point blank range before throwing both body and gun into the river.

I have a radical fire arms upper it works great and all but texas fags can't into lock tight or designs that don't get loose both radical and primary arms products. Once had a flip to side magnifier mount from primary have the locking pin fall out of its hole and just be a floppy mess bouncing up and down from recoil and the gas block from my upper slide foward making my AR a bolt action until I put it back. I'd personally build from scratch using their cheap but pretty good barrels and either have someone else do it or borrow a drill press to make two dimples on the barrel for the gas block set screws as opposed to the half assed ONE they give you. I'd also try for some other rail than the one they use and go for something that uses a lock ring jam nut thing like yankee hill style rails, the style they use is held on with 8 t15 torx screws at about a half inch long and if you don't slather the thread locker on you get a loose rail and a wasted range day. If you do buy a complete radical upper it only costs a few dollars here and there for tools and locker you should already have but some time to strip down to make sure it's tight. Other than those complaints primary arms is great for shipping times and customer service. I'd suggest you buy through them instead of straight from radical for faster to deal with customer service primary is a seller for radical that's why you see their stuff on sale almost all the time

If price isn't a concern, buy a classic S&W. Model 19-2 or -3 for .357, or a 29 for .44 mag, not only will you have a finer gun from a more elegant age, but you can ease into shooting magnums with .38 and .44 special.

Finally got license so I need to choose one long gun and pistol. I'm poorfag so my considering: CZ P10C, Norinco PX-3 (7.62x25), Norinco 1911A1, CZ 75 (first version with big lightning cut), PPSh-41, AKM, RPK, Zastava M92, Wz. 88 Tantal, AK74N, SVT-40.

cheap AR-15 is out of my price range

89e057 No.496540

>>496532

Tantal is pretty good - leagues ahead of the AKM or 74 in quality control. The big downside is the folding stock; wrap it in paracord and you'll be okay.

SVT-40 is a pain in the dick to strip, clean, and reassemble.

PPsh-41 is kinda crap and underwhelming unless you have fully-automatic capability. The history is there, but it's a chunky and clunky SMG.

Zastava-anything varies wildly as far as quality goes, I wouldn't recommend it.

Either of the CZ pistols.

I have a unique method of shooting that I picked up from my airshit days. I shoulder right or left without moving my hand position. I don't know if it really works with true firearms, but I wanted something that could potentially support it. (Pic related to hopefully give an idea of what I am saying. Arms are color coded to show no new placement) The method doesn't work well with longer guns that requires a far forward grip.

>>490709

I got it. There are 4 "captive" pins that hold it together. It is very tight and nothing feels loose.

>>491308

I'll put 2,000 rounds thru it at some point in the near future. I don't see any sloppy welds.

>>496486

I've wanted a bullpup rifle for a long time, but didn't want to shell out ~2000$ for one. Initial observations: Balance is amazing. It rests on the hand and doesn't lean forward at all. Trigger is SUPERB. Basically as good as a 900$ AR. It does have a glock like click and reset to it, which I love. Magazine release can be done with the shooting hand pretty easily but it does wear on the hand. I reach up and pinch the release and mag and pull down and out. The magwell is kinda small and hard to hit even after some practice. I'll try to mod it somehow. The downward ejection is amazing for catching brass and I already have a cheap system for doing so. A simple cloth bag with a clothes hanger cut and wrapped thru some of the sling attachment points. (Pic 2 related) It was pretty easy to attach and swings out of the way for emptying. As a side bonus it will prevent debris from entering the rear end of the rifle. It cycled SS109/M855 flawlessly out of the box (manual says they did that intentionally), so I didn't have to adjust the gas system. It doesn't have an adjustable stock (the 2nd gen tactical RDB will have an adjustable stock, and MLOK rail, but that won't be out for a while, I think by the end of 2017. Then it will likely be overpriced due to high demand and low supply) I picked my RDB up for 1100$ last week. It does come with just a flat rail and will need optics/buis. If you have further questions feel free to ask.

http://550magnumwildcat.blogspot.com/

There were other design parameters as well. “The whole project was to fit the most horsepower in a standard magnum action,” Scherz says. “Neal wanted it to fit an H&H box and a .700” bolt, so the rifle could be built on a $500 action, not a $3,000 action. He envisioned it as a practical, working rifle. I built the prototype on the CZ 550 Magnum, because that’s the most reasonably priced Mauser-type controlled-round-feed action available, and it’s a very good one. The cartridge fits perfectly in CZ’s standard box and standard bolt diameter with very little adjustment. The .460 Weatherby head diameter was the one Neal chose because it’s readily available, there’s plenty of brass out there, and it’s the strongest commercial brass you can get. He made it longer, blew it out and created a new bore diameter.”

Another surprising thing about the rifle is its recoil, or rather its relative lack thereof. The delivery of more than 7,000 foot-pounds of energy downrange is normally accompanied by a major thump on the other end. The fact that the .550’s recoil feels more like a warm .458 is attributable to the rifle’s weight, its stock design, perhaps to low pressures in the chamber and, according to Mike Scherz, a factor I’ve never heard anyone discuss in the context of recoil before.

The reason I was looking at a .458 rifle was that I can handload for it pretty cheap, and a local shop as a very nice looking "pre-owned" Winchester model in 485winmag for sale for like 600 burgerbux since it has been sitting on the shelf for 4 years and they want to get rid of it. I could trade my desirable Benelli autoloader for it and get enough store credit to buy a good supply of nice fresh Norma brass.

Another advantage of the .458WinMag is that I can load up some plinking ammo to .45-70-pressures to use at the range.

I could use dirt cheap powder coated cast lead bullets, and it wouldn't wear the cases out after 3 shots.

That wouldn't have more recoil than regular full power .45-70, right? That's not too bad even in old school lever guns with steel but plates.

If I had the money to spend on a custom rifle I'd buy a .460Weatherby rifle, or some fancy English or German double rifle chambered for some kind of massive NitroExpress round.

The only reason to buy a complete AR is because you don't want to work on them. A good or "safe" company to buy from that isn't complete shit or cost you your first child would be Smith and Wesson which their base model ARs cost around $600+ (regular pinned front sight gas block with 16 inch carbine gas length barrel and plastic handguards). There are other companies that build them cheaper like Del-ton or ATI for around $400 but then you risk having some parts not being as good, usually small shit that can possibly cause big problems like gas key screws being lower quality or bad staking at various areas but not some explode in your face and rattles itself to death shit.

If you still really want to buy a prebuilt pay close attention to the wording and specs. If you see words like "Hybrid" in the name or Poly lower receiver in the specs list stay away from it (ATI is the worst offender of this). A poly lower receiver is not always shit as in the SCAR, but that's because the SCAR doesn't have a fairly thin weak spot to snap in two pieces like the AR lower does when using weaker material (take a look at where the buffer tube threads into and look at how the big ring connects to the rest of the lower). Just know that building it lets you know what goes into it and what the general quality is, you can also add whatever you want from the start instead of being unsatisfied with it then slowly and expensively replacing parts one by one.

A good place to start for parts to build

http://www.primaryarms.com/

A website with a good listing of prebuilts to get you an idea what of the brands are and what are the price ranges for budget to mid tier rifles (also pretty good for cheap lowers just don't trust poly and if you want a proper one without over paying go for Anderson lowers)

https://www.atlanticfirearms.com/ar15-rifles.html

ditto

https://www.classicfirearms.com/long-guns/?caliber_gauge_revised=412&cat=52&p=2

You may have noticed all three seem to carry one particular brand always and that's because they are pretty good for cheap uppers with all the fancy tacticool you could want. If I were to buy a radical upper I would buy through primary arms as radical takes quite some time to ship almost like they build to order. So just buy one that's already on the shelf at primary, the customer service at primary is some of the best you can get too

Even if you wanted a pre-built AR, you really should just buy an upper, a lower parts kit (possibly a bundle of those 2) and any aluminum lower from a local gun shop. Assembling a lower is piss easy.

As for buying a lower, just call your local gun stores and ask their lowest aluminum lower price. Most of the time it will be less expensive than ordering online because you'd be spending 30 bucks on transfer fee and more on shipping.

The only real variations in lower are material (always get aluminum), and presence/absense of intergrated trigger guard (No experience with this). Previously you might have seen some lowers without trigger guards (this was extremely early and will only be for replicas of early ARs) and high shelf (I don't think these were ever sold on their own, but avoid them). Some rare ones will have fancy crap on the front of the mag well, but these will be more expensive and less compatible. Quality for aluminum lowers (at least in US) is consistent enough.

Everything I've heard says that the build quality is garbage and the action is far from smooth. I love the concept of it, but it looks like a miss in execution. I have two Calicos, one a 9mm, the other a .22LR.

The .22, an M105 with a beautiful wood stock, works like a dream. The mag takes a long time to load but I've never had a malfunction on that gun.

The 9mm is another story. It has a collapsing stock and boy is that an appropriate name because it collapses on every single shot fired. Apparently the mighty recoil of the 9x19 parabellum is too much for the latch and after one or two shots it will pop out of the hole in the square stock tube where it had been set. I've also never been able to get through a whole magazine without a jam and usually average about one misfeed or jam every 8 rounds. And when I say jam I mean JAM. The way the case gets stuck removing the bolt will require a fair amount of force. If it weren't a collectible meme gun I wouldn't keep it. I'm going to get another, better 9mm carbine some time in the future, maybe a Sterling, but I'm going to steer clear of the 9mm Calicos unless I get a chance to test them out first.

Like I said, it's not all of them, my .22 works perfectly. It's a neat concept and they are collectible but the execution on the 9mm is hit or miss and I don't feel like getting burned again.

Yea they are really overpriced for what they are, and being a holographic sight their battery life is quite a bit less than conventional red dots.

I prefer red dots as I have issues with irons and magnified optics due to being slightly cross eye dominant. When I shoot handguns I tend to shift the gun over slightly and look down the sights with my left eye.

A little heavy for what it is, and the safety can be a pain in the ass sometimes (when it's on the hammer won't "sit" properly sometimes and you have to fuck with it a little (this might be a specific problem with mine that not many others have to deal with)), but it's really easy to field strip and clean, and the sights are pretty accurate and easy to get used to.

Really I think the safety is the biggest drawback. It's in an awkward spot already (which alone would turn some people off to it), and if you have the same problem as I do with the hammer then it can get kinda scary.

Here's the thing though: you can only make them so light.

energy = ½ x mass x velocity^2

and

momentum = mass x velocity

So, let's say that you've got a 2.6 kg gun (P90) firing a .0015 kg (5.7 x 28) bullet at 850 m/s. The energy of said bullet will be about 540 j and the momentum of the bullet will be 1.3 kgm/s.

The momentum of the gun will be equal and opposite to that of the bullet ("every action has an equal and opposite reaction"). By knowing the momentum of the gun (-1.3 kgm/s) and the mass of the gun (2.6 kg) the velocity can be calculated. The velocity of the gun will be -2 m/s. Therefore, the amount of kinetic energy from recoil that goes into the shooter is only 5.2 j.

Let's say, now, that you're firing that same P90 but you added a 7.4 kg block to it. The momentum will be the same when you fire it, but the recoil kinetic energy will be only .08 j.

The 5.7 x 28 is a poor example of this because of it's low mass and as a result, a lower energy-to-momentum ratio than most cartridges.

My point is, your gun being heavy is the main reason (apart from pressure) that shooting is so much different from being shot. Also, a heavier gun means less energy being diverted to recoil and more to the projectile.

He has a really shitty humor, a ranch, a loving familly, a shitload of guns, and a job that consists in saving animals lives and peoples days that he actually rocks at, and he do most of the important stuff in life life with his own hands (cf OffTheRanch).

He has more guns that the internet cared to list,

and he became famous by shooting a .50BMG at stuff "to see what happens".

He is my example in life, the man that gave me the inspiration to get back into the fight and make something out of my life.

He is what I think a true /k/ommando should look like. Shitload of guns, but family first and a job and a brain to fuel it all.

They aren't bad, in fact they are better than new production Remmington 870s, but just be warned they aren't exactly smooth. The Chinese made 870s are very popular here, but for 300€ thats even more than what we pay for them (and we get price gouged hard).

If you were in the US I'd recommend against it because someone surely has stuffed the bolt up his own asshole due to it being a low-cost rifle, but since guns are expensive down under you should be fine.

If it's been sporterized it's still not too bad a choice, but don't expect extreme accuracy. They had a very bizarre way of accurizing the SMLE with the stock, so removing half of it throws it all to the wind and relies on luck.
