New Muslim here Salam, which books do you recommend i read at first ? What topics should i get into first ? Tawheed ? Fiqh ?

inb4 read the Quran first xD!!

8e6b63  No.20204

>>20202

If you haven't read Qur'an, then read it. It is the basis upon which all other things are built. If you have read Qur'an, read it again. Keep reading it until you stop saying stupid things like "inb4 read the Quran first xD!!"

Now, go read Qur'an.

This, OP stop acting like an idiot.

>Keep reading it until you stop saying stupid things like "inb4 read the Quran first xD!!"

How is it stupid ? I specifically asked not to give that reply as it's a given that i have and that i will read it

How can you not figure that out

8e6b63  No.20216

>>20211

Then keep reading it. You haven't read it enough yet.

8e6b63  No.20220

I'm sure there are a lot of mosques near you. the best idea would be probably to talk to an imam. don't let the bear intimidate you they are all mostly good on the inside.

8e6b63  No.20291

>>20216

When you've read it once it has not been studied enough

When you've read it three times, still you are lacking in study

Ten times is still not procifience.

Neither will you be capable of saying you have completed study of Qur'an when you have it memorised

Subhan'Allah, this miracle does not quit

8e6b63  No.20298

>>20211

Just read the parts you find interesting first and study that. I like law and history so I primarily read Islamic law and history and what all the Islamic philosophers had to say and I learned about Islam that way.

Read some Tasfirs, a good modern one would be http://www.englishtafsir.com/

There are also many books by Islamic historians like William Montgomery Watt on the life of Muhammad, which you should also read.

You probably won't even understand the complex subjects of the Quran unless you read these first. Then Fiqh books. Then you'll begin to understand the genius of the Quran.

Thanks but no thanks

You claim to be new to Islam, yet you're familiar enough with those books to have an opinion on them? Somethin' ain't right.

8e6b63  No.20315

>>20313

Reza Aslan isn't a book but i dislike the current reformist movement within Islam composing itself of people like Maajid Nawaz and no i have not read that book but i'm very familiar with the "shura is actually democracy" meme

>My well is Islam, and in particular, the Sufi tradition. Let me be clear, I am Muslim not because I think Islam is "truer" than other religions (it isn't)

Now i don't know how widespread that belief is in Sufism but not even believing the religion you adhere to as superior to others, imo, points to a real problem within your faith

At least in terms of Abrahamic religions

So you came to /islam/ looking for specific kinds of books that fit within your definition of Islam. Why don't you tell us what you believe Islam to be and then we can talk about what books to read.

8e6b63  No.20318

>>20317

Just submit whatever

Is it really that crazy to not want to read someone's take on Islam when said person calls himself a Muslim yet "doesn't really believe Islam is "truer" than other religions" ?

Just throw whatever my way as long as it's not "Hey Islam is actually cool with homos guys" tier

If you have not read the book, how do you know what is contained in the book? You said it yourself:

>>20202

>New Muslim here

I am growing suspect.

8e6b63  No.20320

>>20319

Which book ?

Akhi i feel like we got off on the wrong foot here, let me clear things up ; I say i'm a newly convert because i was a Muslim during my childhood and during my late teens i altered between atheism and agnosticism for some years, i started to second guess myself for a while and after a few months of questionning my beliefs i was guided back to Islam al-hamdulillah

Which is why i used the term "New Muslim" because i had effectively left Islam but also why i might know more than your average newly converted

Now please could you recommend me any books ? I've been looking into tawheed recently and the true meaning of the shahada

8e6b63  No.20321

>>20320

Well, that's not quite the same as being new to Islam; but that's fine. Glad you've come back into the light. As for book recommendations, many of the ones on >>20310 are acceptable as learning tools. Don't discount Sufism simply because so many Americans treat it like "Islamic Wicca". Many of the greatest scholars and teachers in Islam followed a Sufi path.

8e6b63  No.20550

I'll repeat what I said in other thread about books (which is where you should go)

I like the translation Message of the Quran by Muhammad Asad. Also all the books he made are great

I'm Christian but recommend the book "Christian Lives Given to the Study of Islam." It's published by a university and is cheap, $8 new. There's autobiographical accounts of Christians who've dedicated themselves to Islamic studies for the sake of Christian-Muslim relations. It provides lots of interesting insights into Islam as they discuss their discoveries in many areas and from the perspective of an "outsider" but still of Abrahamic faith.

Ignore the autists who were unhelpful, but seriously read Qur'an with tafsir in your spare time.

I'd reccomend reading kitab at-tawheed by ibn abdul Wahhab (RA) and his other book removal of the doubts, both are pretty woke.

Nobody wants to read pro democracy books, democracy is shirk (with exceptions according to ibn uthaymeen IIRC)
