Hello /islam/.

I'm not a Muslim, but for a while I've been interested in learning more about your religion. I was wondering if you had any advice on books to read. The Qur'an is an obvious choice, but would you recommend I start with it, or read some basic theology or history first? Also, is there a preferable translation? I'm also especially interested in classics of Islamic literature and poetry.

I recently purchased this book at a bookstore and I'm really excited about reading it. Gotta know the basics before conversion.

Be warned: That is a very, very opinionated book. If you want to learn about something, you should find completely neutral, unbiased sources of information.

Confirmed, this is completely biased trash that justifies rape and mention that the killing of the innocent is completely justified.

Anti-Muslim propaganda.

Why did you buy it then?

a473bc  No.20196

We've been taqiyya'd once again.

I used Library Genesis It's not like the author deserved the money either way.

translation

>I recently pirated this book

Ah, so "purchased" has an alternate definition in your mind. That's alright. Just caused a bit of confusion.

a473bc  No.20226

>>20206

to most people "purchased at a bookstore" means something completely different to "downloaded an online pdf"

no one cares whether you paid for your download or not, and you don't need to mention you pirated it.

we're not going to report you if you did, so why even lie about such a thing?

a473bc  No.20269

Can anyone recommend me some books on early Islamic history? Anything related to the first caliphates, etc.

a473bc  No.20270

>>20269

Books, no, but you can just do a Google search and get a lot of information.

a473bc  No.20277

>>20226

Indeed, I lied, my intention was to remain anonymous from someone that might've thought I browsed the board by mentioning buying it at a bookstore, when clearly no books about Islam and less in English are sold here.

My apologies for that.

a473bc  No.20279

>>20277

that doesn't make any sense

a473bc  No.20281

>>20279

Well, that's the best I can explain it, I don't see why this is being discussed further. Just take it or leave it.

If they are written by reputable historians with PhDs in Islamic history then they're good. You can start with all of William Montgomery Watt's books.

Start with Muhammad at Mecca(1953)

Non-Muslim interloper here; got these pictures from 4chan a while back.

Hope they help!

a473bc  No.20334

You have to get into the Islamic origins debate - essentially the Quranic religion # Islam, the latter being a creation of later Arabic dynastic muslims and this is demonstrable through historical fact. The muslims took the baloney hadith to make up their religion and 're-interpret' the Quran.

a473bc  No.20335

Muhammad and the believers by Fred Donner seems to be very good. The history seems to back the Quran in so many ways.

The 'hadith' are idol worshipping trash and their only relevance is to see the pathetic factionalism that existed amongst early post Quranic arabs, which is hinted at in the Quran.

"And whoever contradicts and opposes the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) after the right path has been shown clearly to him, and follows other than the believers' way. We shall keep him in the path he has chosen, and burn him in Hell - what an evil destination."

[4:115]

"Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects - you, [O Muhammad], are not [associated] with them in anything. Their affair is only [left] to Allah ; then He will inform them about what they used to do."

[6:159]

"Abu `Amir al-Hawdhani said: Mu`awiyah b. Abi Sufiyan stood among us and said: Beware! The Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) stood among us and said: Beware! The people of the Book before were split up into seventy two sects, and this community will be split into seventy three: seventy two of them will go to Hell and one of them will go to Paradise, and it is the majority group. Sunan Abi Dawood 4597"

"Abu Dawood and al-Haakim reported with a saheeh isnaad from al-Miqdaam that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Soon there will be a time when a man will be reclining on his couch, narrating a hadeeth from me, and he will say, ‘Between us and you is the Book of Allaah: what it says is halaal, we take as halaal, and what it says is haraam, we take as haraam.’ But listen! Whatever the Messenger of Allaah forbids is like what Allaah forbids.” (Al-Fath al-Kabeer, 3/438. Al-Tirmidhi reported it with different wording, and said that it is hasan saheeh. Sunan al-Tirmidhi bi Sharh Ibn al-‘Arabi, al-Saawi edn., 10/132)."

I like the translation Message of the Quran by Muhammad Asad. Also all the books he made are great
