6ab3d4 No.73685
>>73684
We can extend Utilitarianism to women's happiness.
I can say that women that have children are less likely to commit suicide and be an economic drain on the system. Inversely, I can say that children are a drain on the system. But they replenish the labor pool every year. So, I can say that fit women that have children are a net positive on society.
33a5f3 No.73686
Oh, yes, I do think we can look at which social paradigms have existed basically forever, and assume those are better for overall happiness.
But what if we say that since "society" is just a system of competing irreconcilable interests, nothing can ever be good for society as a whole?
6ab3d4 No.73687
>>73686
I'll say this.
Long term consequences of actions seems to be a lost science. If I seek pleasure in the now, will the consequences of said actions come back to damage me in some particular way?
If society seeks pleasure in the now. Then the long term consequences damages society in the future. So, it can be said that there are things that are "good" for society. Tradition for example, is a culture that ingrains itself in society and becomes second nature to those that participate in that society. Some traditions stick while others fade out or are phased out.
If society loses its culture and its tradition, the society has no identity to bind itself together. Therefore, said society fails.
b34b5e No.73688
>>73687
An opinion that astounds me, especially because it seems like a very "teenager" thing to think is that our ancestors were just a bunch of control freaks who made up rules and customs just because they hate people enjoying themselves or sonething. Especially in respect to sexual license. If you can tell me how that meme started…
I saw a tweet a month or so ago I really liked that said something like, "tradition is a system of solutions for problems we've long forgotten. Forget your traditions and the problems return."
6ab3d4 No.73689
>>73688
It's a rather pedantic definition of culture and tradition.
However, in some regards. Our ancestors were control freaks. You would be killed if you stepped out of line. At least in a tribal type setting. I couldn't challenge the leader of the community unless I knew that I could take him on and win. I couldn't boink all the women in the community as some are for the leader only. Contrary to what Engels stated about primitive societies.
Traditions and culture were developed through a millennia of acts that were considered decent by society. It was partially due to control as humans are largely a hierarchical species. However, it was learned that humans, if given some bit of freedom, are more likely to be happy. So, it would behoove the powers not to have some soul crushing traditions to maintain an identity.
As for women, women are extremely valuable to society. But, they tend to be over-emotional and tend to seek recourse in terrible ways (most of the time). If women are given complete sexual freedom, they lose their sexual market value pretty fast and rarely will men want to stay with sluts. Not to mention, if given complete sexual freedoms, society tends to become this ruinous mess where men are afraid to touch women. It would benefit society to tone down sexual liberation in order to maintain its structure.

Also, let's not forget about Asia and how strict their tradition and cultures were/are.
b34b5e No.73691
>>73689
Well if you're going back all the way to a tribal setting, then it's only good and just that anyone disobedient is dealt with swiftly and mercilessly, since they could be a liability for the whole group.
I still don't buy that in the distant past, there were a lot of rules in place just to reinforce control, that seems more a product of recent societies where people are more concerned with the perception of freedom.
Asian societies have survived for an incomprehensible length of time, though, so they're well served with that arrangement.

When I was learning mandarin, I had a few tutors help me and one of them also happened to have a daughter my age!
