Sweet wine is very good by itself, I've found that Moscatel/Muscat tastes good as is or with sweet things like fruit. Alcohol actually decreases your ability to keep warm - IIRC it lowers the body's default temperature and that's why you feel warm when drunk - but in small amounts and in a warm house that's not a problem.
I also want to try mulled wine sometime, especially seeing as it contains much of the same spices as gingerbread, which is a big thing at Christmastime, so it seems like the natural beverage equivalent.
