It depends on the file, some want you in bed, some want you in a nice chair like that, if the hypnotist doesn't say then I pick based on length, using the chair for files under an hour

I dunno. Most files try to take you into and out of trance all by themselves, so you're usually only gonna trance for under an hour, but if you're a hypnowhore like me you'll want to listen to a few each day, and that means several hours of commitment.

A general tip I'd suggest is to find a powerful induction that can reliably put you under, as some 'tists might not have included a powerful enough induction (or one at all) in their file, and that's pretty much the most important part.
Also you can listen while you sleep, but it's supplementary, sleep can't replace trance, but you can still hear and retain knowledge while asleep so if you're really struggling with trancing or fitting some files into your schedule, try making a sleep playlist.
