> And you definitely don't get to tell people if they are Americans or not.
I bet you think Hadji and Mohammad are right proper Berliner too, don't you? People groups have identifiable histories and ethnic compositions that transcend recognition by any state authority. The British Empire didn't make Ghandi British despite being it's subject, being a citizen of the U.S. ffederal government does not make any individual any more American. Descent from the founding peoples of the U.S. does.

> Dude, if you aren't descended from a native american (non-white), you aren't a "true american".
the native indians did not found the United States, they never made up any statistically significant percentage of it's population and never identified as a single unified ethnic group. It's anachronistic to lump all of the tribes together as if they are interchangeable since they never saw themselves that way - in that light you are refusing to acknowledge the sovereign rights of the various tribes to self identify and maintain their cultures and identities. Some tribes do have a very real place in the history of the United States - others do not and have never recognized themselves as a part of the American tradition - you cannot treat them the same.
> All the white people are descended from English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Dutch.
There were no Italian colonies in the new world and aside from short lived settlements in Canada the portuguese had no meaningful presence in North America.
> BTW, Portuguese and Spaniards, like every other european country are white race. Almost all south america (and Brazil by we Portuguese) were conquered. They speak our languages, but they have also their native blood, that's why we are paler than they.
I was replying to someone who was claiming to be a "new york bred italian". South America isn't really relevant. There is a Spanish question in regards to Florida and the south western states but that's also not really relevant as these were not states at the founding of the U.S

What civil war would be relevant to someone who claims to be New York bred? Perhaps the one which New York fought in circa 1861-1865?

>didnt mention germans
Germans were not an extant population in North America until following the civil war when they, along with Scandinavians, came to settle the western territories. There was a large minority present in Pennsylvania but they were viewed as foreigners, Benjamin Franklin writing some very heated criticism of the Germanization of that colony, fearing it would eventually be taken over by that foreign element. the German and Scandinavian settlers have every right to claim their place in the western U.S. for the hard work they put in before the land was civilized.
