Cum one, cum all; post your favorite pics in this thread and OP will automagically make them larger while retaining their original quality!
>What program are you using?
https://bigjpg.com/
>Couldn't I just use waifu2x for this?
It's a piece of shit imo, that's why I shelled out for a more advanced version with a better algorithm. Besides, free version only lets you upscale by 4x, whereas I will upscale it by 16x. The noise reduction is far superior than waifu2x, so if you're autistic and can't bear all those jpg artifacts in your upscaled porn, this is your chance.
>Will this take long?
Anywhere from 10-20 minutes on average.
>Supported filetypes?
<.jpg/.jpeg
<.gif
<.png
Does not work with .bmp or .tif, already tried.
RULES
1. File must be 10MB or under.
2. File must be 3000x3000 pixels or under.
Help (seriously, you should get some help):
<b-b-but m-muh pic is a work of art and it's too large to upscale ;_;
If it's a .png, open up an image editor and resave it as a .jpg to lower the file size, noise reduction will take care of the rest.
<b-b-but m-muh pic is too long/wide to upscale ;_;
Open up an image editor and crop off the parts of the pic you don't want.
<Is there a limit to how many images you can upscale for me?
Limited only by the amount they allowed me. I got the standard version: 1000 pics per month for 6 months. We should be good to go, so don't hesitate.

You're welcome! The filenames have 2 versions: one says 'highest' the other says 'none', this indicates the noise reduction level. The one with no noise reduction is closer to the original, the one with highest noise reduction is more of a fluid wet painting style, I uploaded both versions so you can choose which one you like best.
OK, I'm going to use this folder to stash completed upload requests from here on out:

There's an app you can download locally that sends your pic requests to the hi speed servers for those of us paying members. So yeah, just upload the pics, select the upscale dimensions and the noise reduction level, and the server does the rest, then it lets me download from a link when it's done.

I did a simple comparison.
The waifu2x image was made with waifu2x-caffe in 8 seconds. Both offer 4 levels of denoise, I picked level 3 (highest) in waifu2x and Highest on the site.
The site says it uses waifu2x anyway so at best it probably uses a different model.
I also included a denoise only pic.
Fuck the page took like 10 minutes.

bigjpg says it's based on waifu2x but it uses it's own algorithm so yeah I find the model is better. Unless maybe someone other than me wants to shell out money for a comparison in full 16x resolution side by side but fuck it's not gonna be me paying twice.

Is a shitty time all around bro. I tested waifu2x aganist the results of the OP post, and I concede waifu2x's output is far inferior to this bigjpg. If I had to take a guess they trained the neural network themselves far more than the original waifu2x did and tout it as their own thing. At that level of upscale though the artwork's gonna start to break apart regardless of what you do, I personally have no need to go that big for anything without wanting something that is or closer to native.
I'll stick with waifu2x then because local processing is pretty important on top of all of that above.

If someone ran a image matcher between e621's database and yiff.party's database and went to town with training the network with the results, it'd be the ultimate 2D art upscaler given you don't get the homogamy of visuals with furry art that you do with anime art, or anything that's just humans.

e621 has 847000 png posts. Even with just the top 10% it's already enough to make probably several good models.

Raw higher resolutions tend to work better for making a hypothetical model more effective no? For that yiff.party would probably make for a far better source to get a lot of data to feed a nural network. Plus even if it's only really organized by artist, any given artist has a consistent enough artstyle that'd it'd be easy to make sure you get consistent results.

OP here. Tried something new today: upscaling animations.
PROCESS
Animation formats like .gifs are really just collections of still images sequenced that play so fast your mind merely percieves it as movement. With that in mind, I decided to test out upscaling an animated .gif to see how well it would look. I downloaded the .gif file, then used 7GIF to extract and bulk save all of the frames in .png format. I then submitted said frames to bigjpg to be upscaled by 4x at highest noise reduction. I then put the upscaled frames into APNG Assembler and turned it into the final product in .apng format (animated .png)
I needed to get the timing correct on how long each frame should be delayed; I was able to reverse engineer the original .gif by putting it into Photoshop and having it show me the time delays, which I then copied into APNG Assembler: the timings are perfect.
END OF RINE
Attachments related: the before and after pieces. Please lemme know whatcha think. I will also take animation requests if you so wish.

I got the crazy idea to try animate an x16 of this but it sucked out almost all of my 8GB memory and hung the program.
PROCESS
I extracted the frames in .png format with 7GIF, I sized the individual frames to x16 with highest noise reduction, and downscaled them in Photoshop:
>Before: 9600 x 11200
<After: 3840 x 4480
This should be big enough to fit the most HD monitors. When I created the .apng with 0.07 second frames (original) I noticed the animation slowed down a bit, maybe it's because it's trying to shuffle thru the frames at a slower rate than I'm able to do with my hardware? I'm using a 4GHz CPU, 8 GB of memory, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. I also turned off palette compression and color compression because I noticed the colors changed, also kept the original 15 iterations of 7zip as compression method (I don't really know how this works or what it means or how to make it better, and I tried searching google but it wasn't much help.) So I changed the frame delays to 0.06 and noticed a significant improvement, practically matching the original. File size is 20.1 MB.
END OF RINE
In my opinion, I think it looks fine, for me, but maybe it won't work for you as well, but anyway, I'd appreciate your feedback and any other advice anyone can offer. I hope you like it.
If you're unsatisfied, I can go back and do it again. Just need you to specify what dimensions you'd like and how fast you'd like the frames to shuffle.

Right, because poor server security is "simple basic logic".
You don't have any idea in the slightest of what you're talking about, do you?

Nice. I have actually been using a desktop background I made from that image for years now (like 4 years? It has followed me between computer upgrades). I also have a mousepad I have been using for years from one of the other nate drawings. Even after I got a 4K monitor I have been using the old 1080 background... until now.

This is a novelty that will quickly get old, nobody wants to carry around 12k images you double faggot. Waifu2x only does 4x upscaling but you can put it through a second time. This 'service' is worthless unless you want to put shit on a billboard.

Billboards have super low resolution. Like 4 pixels per inch. They’re hundreds of feet away and don’t need it.

Ask the artist's permission first before you upscale !!
There's usually a good reason why artists upload low res versions on their public gallery,
i.e. the high res versions are for our $10 tier Patreon supporters, or only for the eyes of the person who commissioned!

Eventually, remastering will be cheap and easy and automatic for everything, music, films, video games, whatever. It’s starting now. There’s no reason to cling to the obsolete idea that lowering the resolution makes something less valuable.
Artists are better off learning and understanding this now, than trying to resist the progress of technology as long as possible. If they depend on low quality jpgs to protect their income then maybe they should focus more on their artistic skills.

And eventually the sun is gonna explode so you may as well send all your bitcoin to me instead of letting it go to waste. Like I'm gonna sacrifice today's profits because in 20 years *maybe* someone will invent software that makes furry porn.
Deny me the payment I'm due as an artist? Then I deny you your orgasm. Simple as that.

Yeah I'll get on it right now. I managed to find hi res versions off e621 so I'm upscaling those.
himi-ki may have disabled their userpage 4 years ago but FA is so hilariously broken that you can still access their gallery through direct links. For example; http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16530029/

the hi.-res versions from e621 were uploaded by me, which I ran through waifu 2x, so that's why I uploaded the low res ones, and yeah FA is hilarious, that's also how I got the originals to begin with
Anyways, Thank you!

Something I always find interesting is taking low res pixel art and letting the these upscale them to see how they turn out.
Here's the original, run through waifu2x twice to get 4x resolution, waifu2x.me, and bigjpg

So then patrons/commissioners get to have the original file.
Upscale is never going to be the same quality as original resolution raw files.
Not to mention, if you put something up on the internet, you should be ready to accept that other people are going to do to that file what ever they want and there's nothing you can do about it.

upscale pixel art isn't going to really look all that different, just bigger and blockier.
It's certainly not going to see much benefit from algorithmic up scaling, in my opinion.
