The fact that people are going to claim these spots saddens me because they don't know any better about value

For $1100 I could get 11 high quality images from other artists who charge reasonable rates, not some sub-quality garbage miles-df shits out in half an hour

So what's the appeal for being in one of these? Is spending money to have your character in an orgy with complete strangers a fulfilling thing to do?

>>80487

We can be more accurate than that. Assuming a base intelligence of 10, that's a +0 modifier for the int-based linguistic skill. For the text in question, the lowest DC is 20 for simple messages, and I'd say he didn't even fully read it, so there's a -2 penalty as well.

Luckily, he should at least have one rank in the linguistics already, so there's a +1.

Failing the check, there's a DC 5 Wisdom check to make sure that he doesn't draw a false conclusion about the text, which has, sadly, happened.

You don't understand. For the price of a $200K car, you can get ten high-quality cars, but it won't say Lamborghini on the side of those cars, now would it?

The value of a piece of art is not how it looks; it's about telling everyone how rich and popular you are by showing off a brand name. And a popufur artist IS A BRAND-NAME, just like Rolex or Air Jordan or Gucci or anything else.

Any good artist can simulate another's style and draw it in that person's style for cheap commission price, you don't need thousands to draw an artwork that only takes a day or two (unless you're a jew shoving your nose inside the YCH business which is epic)

 No.80583>>80688

I think it partly has to do with the popularity of the artist itself. Miles-df has been on FA since 2006, and has over 52k watchers, so he's the furry equivalent of how Picasso, towards the end of his career, could scribble on a napkin and have it cost more than $10k.

Talking about how high your IS is falls completely flat when you're simply trying to make yourself not look like a total loser compared to people far richer, more popular, more attractive, and more sexually active than you are. Actual intelligence is useless in our society, next to the ability to scam people out of their money. You're not very smart if you haven't figured that out by now.

Have it your way. Rich people don't lose their money just because they're fools. Oh, but then you just would have called me a liar if I didn't provide a specific example.

It need not become a derailment if you'd just accept that I'm correct after a single fucking post, instead of pointing out "OH! LOOK EVERYONE! HE'S TALKING POLITICS!!!!!!" Is it really my fault if I just make the thread lean off the rails a little bit, and then you kick the train completely off the side just so you can crow about how bad I am? Are you THAT upset that I blew your philosophical garbage out of the water with a dose of objective reality? Grow up.

>It need not become a derailment if you'd just accept that I'm correct after a single fucking post

Derailing wouldn't be a concern if people stopped doing the thing that starts a derail. You didn't need to throw drumpf into it, the post didn't even need a reply. Where do you think the appropriate and thread relevant response to

>A fool and his money are easily parted

is

<Let me know when Trump and his money are parted

?

You aren't addressing his claim in any way people can come to without your specific perspective, and even if you desperately needed an example that bad why drumpf? You could have easily named some rich-enough popfur that everybody hates and thinks is retarded, and your message would have come across way easier without the political faggotry and just maybe it might have less derail potential too.

>Are you THAT upset that I blew your philosophical garbage out of the water

I haven't posted in the thread at all before the post you're replying to. I'm just tired of the politics, I have no stake in either side.

>with a dose of objective reality?

I come here for fur, not politics. "Objective reality" doesn't have to always mean politics either, theres a difference between the "objective reality" of physics and the "objective reality" of bullshit political trash.

Now, lets see if we can get back on topic without anyone else fucking exploding

>>80607

>>Talking about money isn't already political

It's already political, but it's not tedious day-to-day wank politics. It's more like a mixture of political economy and sociology.

Nobody really minds talking about the bizarre mentality of brand recognition (Why the FUCK does Supreme exist?), it's the boring political story of the week nobody gives a fuck about. (By the way does everyone remember Diane Abbott can't count????)

 No.80676>>80688

From what it used to be, YCH's would be a good way for an artist to draw a scene and someone would buy in if they had a similar idea. It was a good way to meet others as well as get your name out there for some popularity and whatnot, even open commission opportunities with other artists because it shows you're willing to pay.

Then the auctions started, then the "popufurs" started jacking up the prices of these auctions or outright auto-buying at ludicrous rates.

Now it's just outright cash grabs, it makes me sick.

 No.80688>>80705

>>80583

I guess that makes sense, and I can see that his popularity would drive up the price of those slots. Although, I don't think he's capable of producing a piece of art worth $5,000 on its own. I gave a quick look through his gallery (I'm not an FA user, so I was only able to see some of his stuff) and wasn't really impressed. For example, I noticed that some of his stuff lacks any kind of texture that isn't a smooth surface.

>>80676

>even open commission opportunities with other artists because it shows you're willing to pay.

That's a good point I hadn't considered. Aren't YCHs still done in this way? After all, some artists probably don't have the skill or "value" to influence others into bidding on their stuff. It'd be the same with the inflation of YCH slots too, I'd imagine.

 No.80705

>>80688

>I don't think he's capable of producing a piece of art worth $5,000 on its own

Oh god no, there are way better artists out there that only sell for a fraction of his prices. Though for whatever reason, through out the years he's his popularity has grown to the point where he's not just selling the art; he's selling the Miles-DF brand. If there's one thing that popufurs love, it's the attention that a popular artist can bring to their shitty OCs, thus that artists brand (or popularity) gets shifted onto the buyers. You ever just keep seeing a particular OC turn up in porn from different artists, to the point where they're familiar? People pay out the ass for that kind of recognition.
