Why do so many furry drawings have characters with glowing and/or blue tongues and genitals? It seems like such a weird trend that I cant concieve how it ever caught on. Some artists try to rationalize it that the character is a robot and that's the color of roboflesh, but that still doesnt explain who's idea it was to begin with and why

Just looks nice and colorful.

It's an easy effect to achieve in digital art that adds some flavor to the picture.

It's stupid when the tongue is a different color from the orifices, at least with the character you posted it makes sense that they're all the same color. Shit tons of furry characters have whacky colorful genitals and assholes but then the stupid fucking oc creator gives them a normal tongue and mouth.

I hate when artists make the genitals/anus weird colors.

Thankfully, all it takes to return the genitals to a healthy color is a simple hue-shift slider.

I kinda like the idea of different flesh pigments for different species. Doesn't make sense since the red comes from oxygen, but maybe these guys eat copper/[insert other element that does different color] based stuff, and transfer oxygen somehow else. Maybe the don't breathe oxygen, who knows? A biologist's fantasy, fuck something incomprehensible, then learn it.

The red comes from oxyhemoglobin. There's several other respiratory pigments on this planet right now that still utilize oxygen. You could even have different colored blood with hemoglobin. There's this one tiny species of gecko that has bright green blood due to the massive presence of bile pigment in it.

Don't know how to explain the glowing though. Maybe luciferin in their tissues?
