Hello. This is a Question and Answer thread where I can attempt to explain stuff folks might be wondering about.
For a bit of a premise, I tend to waste a lot of time writing stories with folks with a personal character played as an undead dragon.
Ask away.

What kind of questions are you expecting here? I mean we all are probably RPers of some kind.

I'm not entirely sure. There's various topics like scene ideas, how to handle a plot, popular gathering holes, etc.
Then there's stuff like character creation, things to avoid when getting into an RP, some of the terminology, etc.
Pretty much anything. There isn't much in the way of a definitive topic.

Don't worry. There's a lot of folks with similar issues. A good way to learn is to join a live chat and just watch some of the better players. Check out how they form their paragraphs, profile layouts, and imitate what works while avoiding the stuff that doesn't. Everything takes some time but a little effort can bring you above the norm pretty quickly. Another good tip is to don't get tunnel vision. Take some time to set the scene, describe details, and give the other player something to work with rather than parroting their posts back at them.
▶ No.63882
>>63875
It's alright. A lot of players choose pokemon as a template for their first characters since there's so much art readily available as a reference. Past that point, there's some good scenes that work with it but there's also a whole lot of low-effort ones as well. In the end, it tends to depend more on the players than the canonical setting.
▶ No.63883>>63885 >>63890
How do I actually get back into the groove of committing to nsfw rp? I cant manage it even while I'm horny anymore, but I want to anyway. My mind keeps inhibiting me and it's all my friend wants now.
▶ No.63884
>>63879
The worst RPs tend to be the ones where I start with a long post setting up a scene and get a one-liner back, players railroading the plot towards one thing and one thing only, or people who just go awol in the middle of everything.
As for the funniest, there was this one back in a game where we were all in some port town and there was always something going on in the tavern. It's kind of hard to explain everything in detail but someone fell in a fireplace while another slung a mug across the room and landed a critical hit on one of the high-ego players.
▶ No.63885>>63886

What exactly is getting in the way, being more specific?
Also, you don't have to do something just because your friends want to.

I don't know. I just can't manage to actually get to the sexual interaction anymore even though I myself will lead up to and tease it.

He makes a good boss monster. There's this fleshwarping gimmick with him where he can eat dead NPCs and turn them into minions.
With allies, he's kind of a mobile healing pod, pack mule for supplies, and tank.
Kink-wise, basically vore and abusing the whole fleshwarping gimmick for a tendril molestation or transforming characters when the other player wants to have a canonical reason for doing so.

▶ No.63890
>>63883
It's one of those things that you can't rush into. The more you have invested into a scene, the more suspension of disbelief you can maintain. Don't go for the nsfw stuff all the time or you're gonna end up getting burnt out on it. Set up a setting but don't plan out the whole story. Freeform your posts in the moment and think about how your character would react in the situation.
▶ No.63891>>63893
So you obviously played Dark Souls 1 a lot? That character is an obvious devouring dragon.
▶ No.63892
>>63889
Sorta yes and no. He's undead so that kinda gets in the way of things but with the fleshwarping gimmick, he can clone characters or replicate the genetic material needed to make things compatible.
Cue the screaming.
▶ No.63893
>>63891
Oh yea. He's pretty much based off the Gaping Dragon from the sewer area before Blightown. That and a bit of the Centipede Demon in the lava area. Took a lot of stuff from Dead Space and John Carpenter's The Thing as well.
▶ No.63894>>63897
this is what makes me feel the most autistic out of anything in the world
let's say my biggest trouble with rps is describing expressions, emotions, characteristic mannerisms to make something actually dynamic and have real depth rather than playing little more than an elaborate sexbot. how the fuck do I go about improving this sort of thing? What books or stories should I read that can help me, that focus a lot on describing this stuff and have either lots of character interaction, or a lone character that monologues their feelings and thoughts on their situations/well being, feelings, etc.
very serious query here because it works me up when I realize how few my strengthes are due to shit social cogniscience
▶ No.63897>>63898
>>63894
There's two ways you could go about it. Option one would be to just play a character who has trouble expressing emotions and is trying to cope and you just play out your own struggle through them till you get better at it. It could even be a slow character development that goes at your own pace.
The other route is to mimic others and find out what does and doesn't work. For source material outside of watching other's RP, I'd suggest the Eragon series, Artemis Fowl, The Golem's Eye, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, and other entertainment stories.

F-list is where a lot of folks go where there's public channels that people RP on. Eka's Portal is another but it's mostly vore-themed. I started out in Furcadia but it's kind of a ghost town nowadays. The RP Repository has some forums that you can read through where people have played out some scenes. From all of those, you might find mentions of other areas. I haven't gotten mixed in with Second Life personally but I hear they got a decent community size. IMVU is a waste of time though.
▶ No.63904
>>63901
I don't really follow any set rules like DnD or Pathfinder but I sometimes play a DM sort of role with folks in some scenes when my character isn't present. I tend to favor one on one RPs personally due to time constraints with irl stuff.
▶ No.63905>>63906 >>63908
What do you think of people who are content with, and have no drive to go beyond doing rps with their pokemon ocs and other pokemon ocs? Is there a medium that in your mind simply garners more respect and is more ideal?
▶ No.63906
>>63905
A lot of people tend to go with the path of least resistance. It's why so many latch onto canon characters or settings where all the setup work has already been done. It's bad in that a lot of it comes off as blatantly stealing someone else's work but a broader stroke with just using the setting and inserting a character makes it easy for other players to know what they're working with and get into things.
Anything can be good if done right. If you want to play a pokemon/digimon/etc, don't choose a specific character like Ash's pikachu but instead go for just a random specimen of the same species and give them some backstory relevant to where they are and what's molded their personality into whatever it is.
The main thing to avoid is overloading a character with gimmicks. One or two is alright but the more complicated you make the basics of a character, the more cringy it gets and that limits the player to low-tier RPs.
Some of the best players are folks who just chose something like a cat, gave them a personality, and ran with it.

Forgot to answer the second part of the question. Sorry about that.
As for mediums, whatever gives you the ability to type up a decent amount of text and read back through previous posts. Live chats and forums work really well. Discord is pretty good but you might have to post individual paragraphs at a time due to the character limit.

Here is a question:
Why does RP always devolves into some form of fucking?
▶ No.63910
>>63909
It doesn't always. If you start up something in a kink-focused channel without saying otherwise, it tends to be assumed that it's going to go nsfw.
If you're not looking for lewd stuff, try setting a status or RP ad stating that you're looking for a story-focused RP and give an example of what kind of situation you're looking to play out.

why do you RP?
do you do SFW RP, or only NSFW?
how do the ideas for RP actions actually come to you?
does it embarrass you at all, either in the moment or reading over it with hindsight?
don't take any of that as an attack, or a hostile line of questioning. i genuinely don't understand and wish i did.
▶ No.63918
>>63917
I mostly do it in a way similar to playing a video game. I liked the stories of a lot of the old games in my childhood and with financial constraints along with the repetition of tropes in modern games, it's an outlet where I can have a bit of freedom with a character.
Some are SFW and others are NSFW but that mainly depends on the mood of myself and the other player along with character preferences.
As for ideas, I usually rather use the default environment of an RP channel. Sometimes it's a tavern. Other times it's a space station or a modern setting and a few details about the character need to be adjusted to make things fit. In a one-on-one RP via PM/whisper, there's usually an OOC discussion to decide on what a feasible situation where the characters could meet might be.
For embarrassment, not really. In an RP chat, it's kind of assumed that everyone's there to RP so there's not much reason to be embarrassed. That being said, it's not something I'd actually talk about offline since it's still considered a primarily fetish thing by normal people and would be like talking about sex toys in a restaurant.
Hope that all made sense.

Nothing along the lines of decay. The flesh is more or less assimilated from stuff it hunts and repurposed so it's not actively decomposing.

By default, there isn't one. The split lower jaw runs down the length of the body splitting it open into something along the lines of an iron maiden device. Abusing the fleshwarping ability can be used to make one out of excess material but when it's not needed, it's reassimilated back into the mass.

Discord is fine.
Public servers are the cancer.
But like, a benign cancer that you can pretty much just ignore since it doesn't really affect you seriously.

None for the most part. The whole fleshwarping gimmick tends to take care of that. There was one minion a long time ago that used sugar secretions to maintain a culture of bacteria for a weapon but that goes more along the lines of venom.

It's not really that hard to find people surprisingly. Met with a few friends messing around. There's a fairly large number of folks who just hang out with the community since they can draw fairly decently and there's a load of people throwing 60usd+ for art.
Most NSFW channels are like dumpster diving but you can find some decent folks in the story-driven or plot heavy areas.
