I'm looking to make my own Meowstic fursuit but I'm poor, so I just want to know what supply and cost I would need to make a good fursuit. Or at least the head.

Materials don't cost very much. Maybe a couple hundred bucks for foam and good quality fabric. What you pay for with fursuits is highly specialized labor. You'll probably have to make ten of them before you start to not totally suck.

The costs of materials obviously depends on quality, but you can expect to pay at least 150 dollars for a fullsuit. While it is true that having experience making suits is extremely helpful, having any experience in any of the arts really makes a difference as well. I'm working on my first suit at the moment, and I've noticed that--by far--the most useful things you can have (aside from prior experience with suit making) are spatial reasoning/drawing/sculpting skills, effective research skills, and patience.

For just the head:

$30 Foam (assuming bucket-head format, using JoAnn high-density upholstery foam purchased with their free 40% off coupons)

$30 3/4 yard of fur depending on how big your store's roll is (some stores use rolls that are ~2 yard wide vs 1 yard wide, this assumes a 2-yard wide roll which is more than enough for a single head + fuck-ups.)

$10-20 Knick-nacks. Things like hot-glue & glue gun if you don't have one, thread, buckram for simple eyes.

Just know that your first make is certainly gonna look bad, so add the 1.5x multiplier to the price.

Where the fuck is this mythical $150 dollar fursuit? I assume it's mythically BAD.

That's where you buy $150 of fur fabric and just drape it over your shoulders like a poncho.

To be honest, I'd rather see a fur-poncho than a latex gimp-suit at a convention. But not in the hotel room.

My advice, don't make your first fursuit of your fursona. 99% of the time you'll be disappointed because it's never perfect. Come up with something new, simple, and easy.

Foaming a head sucks if you're eyeballing it. It will look unbalanced and creepy. Get a mannequin / styrofoam hobby head and sculpt modelling clay on to it to get the shape you want. Then glue and cut foam. It's easier to work with something you can reference.

Make only half of a DTD. Pick one side of your body, tape it, cut it, use that as a template for the suit. All you'll need to do is mirror the pattern to get the other half and it helps to keep the suit symmetrical.

Best of luck!

Now how does an anon make himself a good murrsuit?

 No.68136

>>68135

Buy a premade head and paws, the body-suit can be made with some rudimentary sewing knowledge.

If you really want to do the making yourself, look into getting a resin-blank mask.
