 No.42350[Watch Thread][Show All Posts]

Anyone else here go to Rainfurrest 2015, aka the furcon from hell.

 No.42355>>42357

I did. The staff's leniency on troublemakers and a group of very dedicated and destructive trolls culminated in a good con going to shit and ending. Aside from that crap, it was a fine enough convention.

>>42355

It was my very first furcon and when I went I had just turned 16, I remember during day 2 there was this dude who was covered in bubblewrap that I bumped into while I was at the bathroom near the Dealers Den cause the one near the lobby had been flooded out and I was over washing my hands and this fucker went over and just yacked all over the urinal cause he was drunk out of his damn mind. Never a dull moment eh.

There needs to be a zero-tolerance policy on alcohol at cons. Even use random breathalyzer checks on suspected individuals if need be. You don't need alcohol to have a good time.

Wow, you sound like a real cunt.

 No.42368>>42422

I was going to volunteer to help set up the art gallery for that very con; I ended up having to cancel to help my sister move after she and her boyfriend split up. From what I've read it sounds like I dodged a bullet.

The only thing that ruined RF was the babyfurs. We need to have a zero pedophile tolerance policy, but that would mean hurting feefees, so it won't happen.

 No.42406>>42424

I often wonder how fun it would be to just get tied down in a con room for hours and get railed and cummed on and in by dozens of bareback strangers

Im not going to ruin my life because I'm not an idiot, but it's neat to think how things could have been

 No.42422>>42461

It was really alot of factors that went into the self destruction of the con, mostly it was straight up stupidity of some people, you could say that everyone was just acting like a bunch of animals.

Tell that to people at NorwesCon, Washington's enormous sci-fi/fantasy convention, which has a raging party scene... and, actually, handles drunks pretty well. RF didn't because their staff was so hands-off about trouble.

>>42402

There weren't nearly as many as people think. The diapers incident in '15 started as a gross-out scavenger hunt, and then ye random assholes started finding them and smashing them on cars in the garage.

>>42422

Staff had been too lax for years, there were a bunch of people being stupid, and those two together were a huge dent. Throw in the trolls who came just to fuck shit up, and it's no wonder everything went sideways. Other cons have babyfurs and idiots, but they don't run aground, because they have well-organized staff who don't tolerate shit.

well I mean it's passable, not pro even by fuirry standards but it's ok. How do they hire people to do these art jobs? Or do they just let anyone submit their art and then pick the one they think is best? Thanks for the pic btw.

 No.42554

>>42537

Nigga if that doesn't look like a sergal then the artist is a retard who doesn't know how to draw a snout.

 No.42957>>42960 >>42991

>>42538

I don't know how they were chosen, but every year they had four or five different pieces of art, and at registration, you could pick one and insert it as your background. Occasionally there'd be a really poor-quality one, but I think they were usually rather nice.

This post shows a laminated badge simply marked "Attendee," but I suspect that's fan-made thing. RF never had laminated, punched badges as standard, and they always said "Rainfurrest" on the front. Just now, I checked my badges; they were, as usual, in a slip-in holder and had the attendee's name and "Rainfurrest" on them. I often took, if I could, one of each piece of art, and my group doesn't include a sergal. The slip-in badge art was always associated with the year's theme, and that one doesn't fit.

 No.42960>>42966

>>42957

What do you gain by disproving them? Just curious. They haven't tried anything.

 No.42966>>42991

>>42960

I'm not disproving out of any vengeance or purpose. Just saying, offhandedly, that this doesn't appear to be the standard badge. It's not the fursuiting badge, either. I suspect it's a fan-made badge. It looks slick and well-made; I'd rather have laminated badges than the slip-in, "press pass" type RF (and many other cons) used.

 No.42991>>43136

>>42966

>>42957

Sorry, not fan made. I actually fucked up because the badge is from BLFC, not rf. It was just in my RF lanyard. My bad

 No.43136>>43139

>>42991

Ah, that explains it. They use laminated badges? Add that to the long list of good things I've seen/heard about BLFC.

 No.43139>>43158

>>43136

Why does laminate matter?

 No.43158

>>43139

I just think it's classier than the big, bulky "press pass" type badges, even though those being able to hold a con schedule is nice.

AnthroNW is pretty much Rainfurrest 2.0, since it's ran by the same people. Same mistakes.

Same mistakes such as? I don't think we'll see whether they're making the same mistakes until we see how Year Zero goes. I'll be going, and keeping an eye (and ear) open regarding how staff handles disruptions and problem people-- versus how staff did so at RF.

The hotel where they're hosting is a nice place, though it's several blocks from the usual hotel/convention area. Even so, it's not a far walk to food. If I see a big downside, it's transportation from the airport. There's the Link (light rail), but the nearest station to this hotel requires going 4-5 blocks up steep hills. Getting off at the Westlake station, where the walk to the Renaissance isn't as steep, still requires going uphill, which is about 9-10 blocks. That being said, RF's Year Zero was in a crappy hotel (the former Airport Holiday Inn, which had been in decline ever since someone had the genius idea of tearing out their very popular revolving restaurant to make a large event room), but was at a much better spot the following year.

I fully expect the local trolls to go, "Hey, look, another Pac NW furry con! Bets on how many years it runs before we make all the hotels blacklist them!"

 No.48577>>48590 >>48591

>>48505

As others noted, someone at RF had the dumb idea to host a scavenger hunt using diapers filled with chocolate. Some other person(s), probably NOT babyfurs, apparently found some of them, took them to the hotel's garage, and smashed them on car windshields. Probably the same people who stuffed towels into the hot tub's intakes, and stuffed them into a toilet in a room above Con Ops and flushed it repeatedly. There were definitely a handful of people who dedicated each year to destroying the con.

 No.48590>>48680

>>48576

The staff team had been warned year after year by the Hilton of the issues amongst the attendees, and they did little to nothing about reigning in the public indecency and drunkenness and vandalism year after year.

Even after getting Rainfurrest banished, do you really think furries learn from their mistakes?

>>48577

>he believed Twitter and staged photographs

Top lel.

 No.48591>>48680

>>48577

That handful of people is called "Adventure Crew" or something similar. It's a bunch of Californian trust fund furries with about 0 common sense and 0 decency.

Usually they just trash their rooms by throwing boozy parties and shoving all the furniture outside onto the patio, where it gets destroyed by rain. Then they open up GoFundMe pages because "omg the hotels literally Hitler and they're making me pay for this mattress that got soaked"

 No.48680

>>48590

The trolls, as I said earlier in the thread, were only a small part of the issues. In my opinion, the entire rest of them were staff problems. They were soft on troublemakers, some of them took their jobs too seriously and were stuffy, they turned a blind eye to problems, and staff didn't ban certain staff members from volunteering after they proved to be fuck-ups-- and screw it, I'm naming names, I'm talking about Aloha.

>he believed Twitter and staged photographs

I had friends on staff, and friends who were not on staff and knew enough to see the problems with staff. Again, the con's biggest fault was that the staff apparently just didn't give a fuck; I get the impression that lots of them joined staff simply to be able to say they were helping run a furcon.

>>48591

Who's in this group? I ran into no over-the-top parties the last few years of RF... at least, not over-the-top by con standards. They went indoors after around 11 PM, and didn't make messes that I saw. I did see ads for an unnamed party showing two blitzed-drunk furs, Galaxy Wulfsky and SkylerTawks in '15, and dropped in fairly late; it was closed-door, all the booze had been consumed, and everybody was sitting around talking while, yes, blitzed-drunk.

Is there a list of staff for AnthroNW anywhere? I don't see one on their website. No matter who's running it, I'll at least attend Year Zero and see how they do it.

 No.49104

I'm kicking myself still for missing it.
