We can't go with K8 or F8th because they'll just be confused for rule-63 of N8. Kemo, while distinctive, isn't even a furry character; aeromorphs are extremely niche in the fandom. Obviously, using N8 is absurd for reasons already mentioned.

Board tans including N8 are made when someone makes a character and the community likes it. If nobody comes up with such a character, then rarely is one picked at all. We're the only ones who tried to "community design" a character and include lore and stuff.

I personally think Bill suffered as a result, democracy is the architect of things that everyone is ok with but nobody loves. /agdg/ as a thread for instance has had numerous attempts at creating a tan, but nobody has managed to create one that was very liked. People don't try to fix and recreate them until they're ok, they're just discarded and the topic is forgotten until the next time someone makes an attempt.

Except we the only reason the design went forward is because a lot of people enjoyed the core idea and how he was turning out, and conversely a fair amount of people dislike him. Just like any of the others. But really, why we are discussing this kind of thing again months after we moved past it?

Bill fits well for the mural not just because he was a community creation, but because he represents the efforts we make to keep our board running with scripts and is the owner of the place in our character lore. There's no complication there.

The design went forward because the active thread prompted it. Bill was the creation of "let's make a character", not "I love that character".

I don't think he's bad, but I don't like him enough to draw him unless I'm doing it for the board, and judging by the lack of solo Bill art I think I'm not alone on that. On the other hand there's a bunch of stuff for the N8 family, even disregarding old N8 stuff. I too draw them sometimes for the fun of it even if I have no plan to share it.

I'm torn on this, I agree it is kinda bullshit to try and have an entire extended family or whatever of characters meant to represent a single board.

I also think that if any board would have an issue with multiple characters, it'd be the board about a certain kind of characters (the anthropomorphic kind)

Personally I feel like Bill fits /fur/'s intentions better as a board where discussion is the intent but porn is welcome although maybe not outright encouraged, whereas N8's sluttastic self fit /furry/'s heavy saturation of fetish and drama threads.

The fact that /fur/ is in a way two boards forced into one because of a lazy board owner is pretty much the only possible justification I can think of for having multiple representative characters.

I was there when N8 was created and I don't remember F8th. As I recall someone drew a raccoon and then there was endless bitching about what gender it was for literally days, and I just presumed that the two sides decided to just go with having N8 and K8.

The group is representative in that having said group lets us write stories and make fun interactions between all of them. Half the point of this board is content creation, so having a multitude of characters to work with makes things like that very greentext you wrote possible.
