Hmm, I might drive down to that one. a bit further from me than the mcfc location, but it would be doable for me.
Cons are pretty new to me too, this mcfc was only my second con, the first being last years mcfc, on its last day, so it probably doesn't count.

You are missing out, my dude. I learned that after 10 years of being a furry. Going to a con and actually seeing the events is amazing. Even without friends, for me, the experience was surreal.

That's only assuming that the con-specific events are better than everything else, and thus worth the time. I highly doubt I could get any enjoyment out of a con without having a group of furry friends to go with. Cons are places to socialize, and almost all social activities (like sitting in a bar drinking) are objective wastes of time without that interpersonal element.

From my personal experience, the comedy was far better than any other non-furry comedy shows i have seen. I've been on a few cruises and seen some very professional comedians. They just aren't as funny to me, since I can't relate.
The ability to relate to those around me, even though I didn't talk to them, has done wonders for my self confidence. I'm sure it would be the same for others too.

I find I relate best to comedy by sad brutally-honest misers like Robin Williams and George Carlin. I can't imagine a comedy show made by furries would be anything other than memes and lolrandom and white-people-problems, because they're all financially-well-off, 20-something, manchildren. I certainly wouldn't find much to relate to except a like for anthro animals. As for the sexual element, I find pretty much all cub content in cons looks to be diaperfags and adult-babies, which is as disgusting to me as it is to anyone else so I wouldn't want anything to do with that aspect. My opinion of fursuits is primarily as a mechanical/artistic challenge, and secondarily as another socializing element; I don't have any attraction to them.

My ex is one of those people who's quick to find fault with furry cons with real examples of stereotypes around. Cons need to be well-run, with good people and a good location, for him to like them. Oh, and he HATES Reno; family had a cabin there, and he used to say the place was a dump-- and says downtown still is. And he RAVES about BLFC.
He says the hotel is good; it has several good restaurants, arcade, go-karts, bowling alley, etc. attached. Says the staff seem to run things well, and the themes are more visible than at most cons. I'm going to try to make it next year.

A lot of furs myself included blend in well because we're not autistic nutjobs and have real jobs and would pass as normalfags on most days. You could go "ooga booga fuck you Johnny France" and only the people in this thread would know what that means, but if you were to actually say that unprovoked it would just be weird.
It would be better to have something like "have you seen the six foot 5 guy in a red polo shirt?" and if the other person says "you mean Darell? No I haven't." then both people know the other is good, and everyone around you suspects nothing. But if the initial comment "have you seen the six foot 5 guy in a red polo shirt?" turns up anything other than Darell, then you can just carry on from that conversation thread as if it never happened, and you never have to sound like a edgelord.

That's what me and three cousins have been doing for the past SIX YEARS. I've never been to a single convention before. There's a convention that will start about 2 weeks from now, and it's actually close. Anthro Weekend Utah I know there's usually one around here only once a year.
I found out about 2 years ago, when a classmate (and project partner) of mine in one of my classes left for a furfag convention.
Off topic, but he was a little bit of a retard on politics.

I'm a little strapped on cash right now, but at least I wont need to pay for a room to stay. I'm still debating on whether I should go or not. I don't really have anyone to go with, except for penny, chip, and used napkin. Also, I'm basically radio-silent when it comes to social media. I guess I would be more confident if I knew some anons here were planning on going to the same convention as me.
Maybe it would be less cringe going to a weeb convention, or something directly related to nihon. I've really enjoyed (socially and mentally) taking Japanese classes at my university for fun.
