What was the rationale for it being bad for kids to work? I don't mean sending kids into a coal mine, but stuff like paper routes, chores around the house (ie sewing, taking care of a garden/farm/animals), or remote work(quality assurance, junior level art/software/music/writing, or work as apprentices/temps for people with desk jobs).
Ideally it'd be low-hours work of negligible benefit to society that could teach them work ethic, provide a glimpse into the adult world, and possibly hone some skills that preparing for a standardized test won't.
Then again, maybe they'd all die, or grow up to be grumps because they never had fun as kids.

The main problem was parents using their kids as an extra source of income (think welfare queen x slave owner) that rightfully didn't set well with people.
The other problem was just like what happened with "stronk independant womyn", "minorities" and automation, it killed the wages of the people already working since it created a massive surplus in the work force.
In that way companies could more easily ignore/eject workers that they should be paying better since they could be replaced with less experienced ones that would "deserve" less pay.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with child labor.
We're heading into a world of malaise and suffering with the advent of mass automation of every process. It's completely ineffectual if child labor comes back because all labor is going to be given to machines. On top of that, there's an undertow of restlessness and anxiety that can only boil over faster into the streets if child labor is brought back, eventually some straw has to break the camels back, but a frog in cold water won't realize that it's boiling if paced right.
