I've been doing a workout consisting of chin up, dip, squat, stiff deadlift, curl, OHP, and calf raise, all for one set of 20.

Instead of just bouncing the weight up and own and cranking out the reps as fast as possible I've been doing the reps with a short pause after each one. It's about 5 seconds or 1-2 breaths. It takes about 3 mins to do each set of 20.

By slowing down and doing each rep individually it improves the mind-muscle connection and prevents you from getting too out of breath. Total workload is also higher since the rests allow you to use more weight. One set done in this fashion is probably worth 2 or 3 sets in normal continuous style.

Nah you should do one set fast as fuck with a bit less weight, one set like you do. Sprinting is harder than walking with 50- 100 lbs on, but people neglect the importance of endurance and stability. 21 minutes of slow steady heavy work is good but I'd rather have the hormonal response and overall benefits of a sprint approach.

Just do both. Football athletes do concentric focused explosive movements all fucking day. The hormonal response is superior, and the training is superior (a plane going 300 mph has to be better built than one going 100 mph).

Back again: Speed exposes weaknesses. Instead of slowing down, think of the normal speed people go at and then go faster. It's much more difficult than slowing it down. Once you train this way, slowing things down to a standstill makes sense (how about 20 second reps?). Two extremes for better training.
