I remember seeing the beginning of what looked as though it was going to be an interesting watch but I cannot think of the film's title. Here's what I remember: one of the first, if not the first, shot is entirely black until a set of light bulbs are turned on, revealing that we had been looking at a pitch black public square. There is a crowd of people watching these light bulbs, which I think are hanging from some kind of sculpture, or fountain, or some kind of structure. The people are kind of awe struck, like it's the first time they've ever seen light bulbs. I believe the film has 'century' or 'millenium' in its title. Any thoughts?

That sounds like
Az én XX. századom AKA
My Twentieth Century (1989).
It's a Hungarian film with opening shots taking place in Menlo Park NJ in 1880.

>>2613Wow. Based; thank you.
While I am at it I have another film I've been trying to discover the name of. It's an experimental black and white short that I am fairly certain uses a lot of optical printing and strange make-up. The most memorable sequence is one in which the silhouette of a child is running across grass in profile. Distance-wise it's a long shot, the boy or girl only takes up a quarter of the screen at the top of it, the ground takes up the rest of the frame. There's also a part with what seemed like a large field but only part of it is lit (like a spotlight but not perfectly circular). There is a person with strange make-up in some kind of house. The whole film seems quite strange. Any ideas?

Hm, that's going to be a tougher pull for me. I don't think I know it, but maybe someone else does…
Might help to describe where/how you saw it?

>>2616I saw it in an experimental college film club. Couldn't be more than 15 minutes in length. It had a kind of live-action Brothers Quay vibe going on and, even though there was no dialogue (at least that I can remember…though there was sound), I don't think it was American.
