I thought this board was supposed to be about these.

Here are two cool movies from Iran

Keshtzar haye sepid AKA White Meadows

>In this dreamlike yet earthbound film, Rahmat the boatman navigates the increasingly brackish waters of a coastal land, collecting the heartaches and tears of its inhabitants. But he remains powerless against their misguided attempts to appease the gods and make the land green again, whether by offering a bride to the sea or forcibly "treating" the eyes of a painter who sees in different colors. Drawing first-hand on the challenges faced by Iranian artists today, writer-director Mohammad Rasoulof's deeply atmospheric and poetical film is a gorgeous allegory of intollerance, brutality, and mystified routine that resonates far beyond any one state's borders.

Baghé sangui AKA The Stone Garden

>In The Stone Garden, Kimiavi visits the garden of Darvish Khan Esfandiarpur, a deaf mute whose home became a religious shrine after he began to hang stones from tree branches. In each film, Kimiavi explores the status of community, arguably producing allegories of the nation during a period of tremendous transformation.

One of the most artistically innovative films of this century.

This film would have been way better if they didn't have Bruegel explain everything.

That is pretty cool. How do you know them?

What was so innovative about it? Films were being stylized as paintings since the silent era.

I did an internship at an editing studio in London and Penny and Alex were there editing it. I got to keep a copy of it when they finished

here's a quality noir that's still a bit under the radar

> Novelist James Ellroy once called this his favorite film and described it as "a masterpiece of sexual creepiness, institutional corruption and suffocating, ugly passion."

i saw it recommended on reddit and it turned out to be great, so i'm paying it forward…
