This is the reason I gravitated towards the early-2000s hipster culture when everybody was listening to Nickleback and watching Vin Diesel movies. I agree, in the near future we will never reach ABNW situation technologically, but we will reach it culturally. In my opinion ABNW highlights 3 different methods for societal control. I'll focus on America for my examples.
Firstly: propaganda and education. Obviously we will never reach "hypnopaedia" levels of brainwashing, but American media has always been propagandized for political races, another war or corporate gain. Only now is it being used for cultural shift. Newspapers and media are now blatantly telling us what to think (and here's why that's a good thing). Overtime we will become accustomed to being spoon-fed thoughts and opinions through media and they will become more bolder in what they assert.
Secondly: indulgence. Building up a culture of hedonism is important because it drastically reduces the number of people who are capable of revolting against the system. How can one achieve free thought, if you are so assblasted that you can't even think? An addict will never revolt against against a system which he is dependent upon. No one will want to leave the warm comfort of indulgence if he has lead to believe that indulgence is good and natural.
Thirdly: public thought. Getting people to oppress themselves. Keeping people scared of a boogeyman. Whenever I start talking politics with my friends I will always eventually hear "haha Anon you're starting to sound like trump", "that's actually a Neo-Nazi dog-whistle talking point", "you do you, I'll do me" or whatever banal excuse they use for not thinking and addressing what I'm saying. And I'm a fucking anarchist not alt right. It's hard to describe. Not only does everyone think the same, but they want to think the same. We are fed all of these imbecile concepts and platitudes to lead us in life, so that we never have to think in our lives. The best response I've gotten to the question of "why is fascism bad?" is that "i guess fascism is responsible for a lot of death and misery so its bad". No point in thinking or forming a rationale when you already are convinced of the truth.
Sorry if I ranted a bit too much or was incoherent. What I'm trying to get across is that culturally we will be at ABNW within a few years, in at least at the centers of thought. The rest of America will follow. Society is currently being trained for this future.
