okay so u know on mr. robot how they make a wifi booster from a pringles can? well that actually works but i need an engineer to tell me what another cheap makeshift device that will pick up signals from far away.

pic unrelated. its michael shannon from 8 mile. the drunk that bangs eminems mom

Take a piece of cardboard. The side of a cereal box should do. Hold it down with your forearm and pull it through so that it makes a curved shape. Coat that in tinfoil. Congratulations, chummer, you just made a GHz radio reflector.

Fractional increases in quality are available for orders of magnitude price increases.

I made the previous post assuming you actually want two way communication, i.e. wifi. If you really want a receiver, google "space blanket telescope mirror" or some such thing. That's for visible wavelengths, but should work for wifi range radio frequencies. Probably. And it's a cheap parabola.

cool. what do u suggest for the legs? I might want to be able to aim it 360 degrees

Assuming your omnidirectional single-pole antenna is big enough you can just put the reflector on top of that.

Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Booster-Directional-2-4Ghz-2-5Ghz-802-11n-Magnetic/dp/B06X8ZFH51/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1519073119&sr=8-9&keywords=9dbi+wifi+antenna

im still here.

i like the idea of having a sniper antenna that I can boost from far away.

Apparently you only need a watt or so to project a signal about 15 miles(yes for wifi) it would still be fcc compliant

I need to read more on it but ultimately I want to spend no more than $20 on cheap parts like a lighting protector and insulative hardware and wire(braided is supposed to be best but like I said, more reading)

Ultimately I want to power it under 1 watt and have some mathematical precision so I wont be losing signal

I also want to get a cheap laser from ebay so I can make sure the Fresenel zone is in line with my Access Point
