What are the arguments for and against?

I agree it was needed when we didn't have the cyclical, to avoid shitting up the board, but now we have the cyclical.

Current situation:

- Pros:

– /cow/ board busy, makes me happy seeing it high up the board index

– board not getting shit up with septic threads,

– threads spinning off from the cyclical with all these spergs and autists from the streams,

– comfy thread for shitposting.

- Cons:

– Some important details and work from anons get lost with the cyclical sometimes.

Regular backups have to be made but even that's not perfect with happenings when the thread goes too fast and sometimes backup get forgotten. It's also extra overhead.

– Images and vids don't archived.

– Low effect shills know the thread to shit up because they bookmark it as opposed to having to check which is the correct thread or getting lost when we switch threads.

Shills fuck up and are easier to track and record with multiple threads but can get forgotten easier in cyclicals.

We use /septictank/ for discussion and archives and we keep the cyclical here as the designated shitposting general for the one too lazy to browse the board. I think it would serve as a good deterrent for shills too.

We could probably setup an instance of wiki.js on heroku, it does 5min backups to git, so everything could be stored on gitgud. then we just need a domain or just sticky the randomly assigned on here for linking to and sort out a domain name later if this goes the distance, like cwc.

It's there to use, setup, good, relaxed /cow/boy as mods, I've used it, you can use it, just depends on others using it. The anons creating the spin off threads are often lolcows themselves or faggots using this place to hide origin of dox or in attempt to hurt some feefees of some eceleb that hurt theirs. I've studied web design and dev too, learned a few frameworks like bootcamp, angularjs, angular2 and react. I've made a few sites with nodejs.

I'll look into setting it up while I watch a movie, if it's easy, I'll send you the link. I think it should be easy to clone once it's setup for whoever wants to be responsible for it.

Git repo's don't have large repo sizes, bitbucket's is 1gig soft with email warning 2gig max I think. gitgud is probably less. I asked in IRC but no response yet.

It wouldn't take much to maintain given the subject and it would be a good test run for a wiki I want for a project I started last year. I could post the git urls to the db and site so anyone else can pick it up if I disappear.

I got a dns name from a friend and I think I found a decently and cheap vps, wiki will be up 1 or 2 days. Will have to figure out how to setup users, maybe one limited anon user shared account and a few mods.

I tried the wiki with js blocked and it appears to work but worst case scenario there's another wiki server I can swap it for but it'll take longer to setup the auto backup. At the very least it's browseable with no js.

So current state of OP's idea:

Have some basic wiki server code that uses git as a database, going to try that today. If it reads from git when opening new page as opposed to storing it server memory it should be free and good to go with some limitations and bugs we can work around and I can probably help fix time permitting. If it doesn't work out I have a much better solution but costs at least $3.50/month and will require migrating from the basic wiki server to the other either manually or code will have to be written.

Doesn't handle uploading images, only displaying, you have to git add them and then point to them in the wiki. It also has some other fatal flaws that could be used by septics to fuck over the repo.

Why not just use the gitgud.io wiki interface? You can do everything a wiki server can do but in your own editor.

Create links to other pages, display images, etc.
