Well, thanks for the story time. Art is obviously lacking, and looks like a mixture of scribbles, traced photos, and filtered photos. That lousy shading/inking looks a lot like what you can see in Calexit. At least there is no cheaply copy pasted panels, non-existed backgrounds, and words overload, although book does get close to it at some points.
Plot is moving too slow for my liking, but so far it is not nearly as bad as most other 'diverse' comics. Ironically enough, protagonists' husband is probably the least sympathetic and most prejudiced character in the book so far.

I think the problem is that these things aren't necessarily as clear as the wording would imply. Saying something got a movie deal makes people believe that Hollywood has already handed over the giant sacks with the dollar signs on them and got into pre-production on the film or television adaptation. In reality, these movie deals seem to be nothing more than an expressed interest in a series or IP. In some cases, it may be as much as a contract saying, "don't sign away the rights to anyone else until we figure out how much money the rights for your shitty comic are worth."

There's a few reasons, but to save on the sperging a bit the biggest reason is horror movies are perfect vehicles for messages and have a long history of a monsters being metaphors. And, as previously stated by others, with SJWs politics come first. It's a perfect match for them. The biggest problem is that they don't understand the whole metaphor aspect and just say "this monster is racism because racism is bad." Godzilla can represent the dangers of nuclear power, but it's still a fun monster movie. Invasion of the Body Snatchers can be about the fear of communism taking over, but it's still tense thriller. The entertainment is front with the message being a supporting aspect to the overall story.

Actually, they get a check for the rights and another one if the movie actually goes into production, since studios snatch up rights faster than they can shit out actual films. As such, the real money is in trying to negotiate a good price for that first check, since an actual film isn't assured and studios will naturally try to keep the number low for their benefit. Preemptive deals like this and Mark Millar's are probably done to pay for the production of the actual comic (indie folk don't work for free, after all)
