They have an incredible wellspring to draw ideas and references from, decades of stories more and less know.

That's simply not true. Italy has been drawing Disney comics since 1932 and only a few of them are about soccer. Currently there are like 1-2 comics per soccer season, which isn't a lot, considering they are releasing ~125 pages of original content per week in the Topolino magazine alone.
The Ducks in Europe stuff is just a few comics. They are mostly from Denmark.

Literally all Scrooge had to say was "I staged dozens of rescue attempts and nearly emptied my vault trying to rescue her" and the boys would have realized how serious this was to him. Instead, he said nothing, the boys got to be dicks, and we get a hamfisted flashback sequence.
It's not the worst thing in the world, but you'd think they'd be able to pull this off in some way that didn't involve the cliche of characters getting really angry over a misunderstanding.

Yes, because Scrooge's major character flaw is pride. It's been shown in nearly every episode so far that Scrooge stubbornly refuses to ask for help, expect things to be done his way, gets people in dangerous situations to satisfy his ego, and would rather suffer alone and miserable than admit he was wrong. It's a trait that defines him, and Scrooge's character arc is trying to over-come it.
So in the case of alienating his family, that was Scrooge's pride once again rearing it's ugly head. Instead of calming clearing up the misunderstanding, Scrooge's wounded pride causes him to lose his temper and lash out.
