I don't know how to break it to you, but mainstream American comics have been built on gimmicks for 60+ years. The past 30 years have been wall-to-wall gimmicks. Gimmicks that only exist to set up for bigger gimmicks. One indie book based on a gimmick is just pissing into an ocean of piss. There's also nothing inherently wrong with gimmicks. One of the few current books I enjoy, House of Waxwork, is built upon the gimmick of being a horror comic that comes with an accompanying musical score.
You want to fight for the honor of comics? Why don't you promote overlooked comics you like instead of giving attention to ones you don't. The book's garbage on every level and it'll fizzle out quickly if you stop crying about it and making people want to support it out of spite.

I've noticed a trend with these "alternative" comics is that they're not very imaginative. They remind of shit like Showcases' Crack Busters, except with less interesting art.
Take Patriotika for example. It earned $41,000 dollars for it's first issue and $45,000 for it's second, but the comics themselves are bland and lacking in the cheesecake featured so heavily in the promotional material.
