>Marvel Comics has announced plans to revitalize its entire publishing line in 2018, promising new creative teams, new series and more.
>The publisher has released a piece of promo art by Jim Cheung, along with a video hosted by current Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, promising a new direction for the Marvel Universe in the coming year.
>“I can say, walking through these halls, I have never seem more enthusiasm and more excitement for where Marvel Comics is going this year, Cebulski effuses in the video. “Not since Marvel NOW! have we have we had such an ver-arching, line wide change of talent on the Marvel Comics line.”
>While the video stops short of detailing any specifics, there are a few things that indicate at least some of Marvel’s plans. First, the prominence given the various characters co-created by Brian Michael Bendis, who signed an exclusive deal with DC Comics in late-2107, indicate that as promised, Miles Morales and Jessica Jones will remain a major part of the Marvel Universe following Bendis’ departure.
>We also see the return of the original, male Thor to the lineup of heroes, apparently no longer “unworthy,” and in possession of of a new hammer, perhaps indicating the possibility that Jane Foster may continue to bear the Thor mantle as well. The video places an obvious emphasis on Ant-Man and the Wasp, indicating that the publisher will likely be attempting to increase the prominence of the character as their sequel heads to theaters this summer.
You can't fool me that easy, Marvel. I know nothing's going to change.

Kek. Naw, I'm good. Reminds me of the Heroic Age overhaul, where they made a big deal of going back to the classic characters and there would be no heroes fighting heroes and big events. Then nothing actually changed. While Cebulski being in charge does give me a bit more confidence in this, I'm still not sold. I'll check back in a year and see if it still has its momentum. While hopefully this is a good sign that they're cleaning house of SJWs, I have my doubts that it'll fix the other major problems Marvel has. Like will it continue to be event after event after event, each touting themselves as the most important moment in Marvel history?

THE BIGGEST SHAKEUP IN six months of MARVEL HISTORY
Surprised they're not just synchronising the events and relaunches to the movies by now. Making whoever is in cinemas the "main character" of the universe until the next flick comes out.
Naturally they'd still fuck it up spectacularly and not attract a single new reader from the box office to the comic shop (if they can find one in the first place), but it would make their brand of 'sense'.

Even though I don't care for them at all, because bad writing has really dragged them down into the kool-aid depths with the rest of the token diversity characters, Miles Morales and Kamala Khan are selling well by Marvel's present standards. They are at least well established and recognizable to some extent, which is more than you can say for Iron Negress or Moon Niglet… or "The Real Hawkeye" or that team of Cosmic Niggers they were pushing during Civil War II.

Legacy was a rushed quick fix to reassure retailers and stall for time and brainstorm an actual game plan. Note how irrelevant the Generations one-shots ended up being, despite them piggy-backing off the end of Secret Empire.
But it's important to remember that DC's Rebirth was also kind of a last minute attempt to save face from a botched relaunch (DCYou)
>>972190
>Surprised they're not just synchronising the events and relaunches to the movies by now.
Marvel Entertainment might as well be openly competing with Marvel Studios now, so it's no use trying to cater to people who will never touch their books. Why else do you think they were so eager to cannibalize their older reader base for trendy millenials?

Captain Marvel has a movie coming out this year, it'd be retarded to not try and include her in this year's push. As long as the movie isn't a horrible flop, which never happens with Marvel movies, there will likely be people interested in picking up comics with her in it. I originally liked Miles in the Ultimate universe, specifically becase they gave Peter a dramatic and heart-wrenching sendoff, and becomes Miles spent his time feeling like he could never fill Peter's shoes. I didn't read the entire Ultimate series of him, but I read up to his mom being killed by Venom and it was enjoyable. I was actually thinking in a lore for her in a free hour in college:
It keeps the same first 4 issues but then she has to fight a guy who can change his density from gas to liquid to solid (soft sci-fi, don't ask me how his internal organs stay in their place).
He is also a radical muslim who wants to implement the Sharia Law in New York, he progresses by exploiting the feeling of being an "oppressed minority" on the local muslim youth and turn them from "moderates" to "radicals" despite that he himself believes the local muslim youth to be pampered and soft.
So Ms. Muslim now has to keep her friends, family and neighbors as moderates while finding a way to stop the radical leader without breaking the laws of the moderate Islam about no killing while the radical leader can just kill left and right because is not against his beliefs.
It was a really slow hour, but instead of taking such a concept, we got this:

That just lead to other faggots messing with our hobbies, like poltards and r_thedonald fags, who use the fear of sjws to infiltrate our communities. Even gamergate wasn't immune. When the 2016 election was approaching, pol all but took over gamergate to shill for their conservative agenda and gamergate became a shell of it's former self.
Which leads us to "comicsgate". Gamergate fags have become convinced that sjws are the source of all problems in media, so they think we need a "comicsgate" to purge them. However, a "comicsgate" would hurt us more than help us. It would empower the irrelevant joke that is comics journalism and give the big two a new angle to shill comics. You think of them as "beloved characters" because you're a fucking casual who only knows about comics in passing. You had absolutely no investment in it until Gamergate was a thing and are suddenly "shocked" to find out they raped some character you only know from a movie.
I was around when DC literally raped Sue Dipney. I was in comics when DC shot Ted Kord in the head. I read when Keven Smith wrote that Batman pee'd himself during Batman: Year One. I know about "Trouble". I've been so deep in this shit that I know your "beloved character" plea is a load of bull. Bendis making the god-awful Riri Williams and have her replace Tony Stark. Riri is so bad a character that she gives poltards ammo.
Jane Foster and mockingbird being made into mouth pieces for the feminists
Storm being made a Racist in the crappy Black panther and the crew comic.
Female characters like Gamora, and Carol being made to look more like males than male characters.
That's just the tip of the iceberg.
No.973590

Finally, something to discuss.
First off, all of that shit is either dead or dying. America's getting canned this Wednesday. Riri is on her way out. Jane's going to die. The Mockingbird book got shit-canned back in 2016. Black Panther and the Crew was shit-canned just before release. The stuff about Gamora and Carol looking too masculine is neither here nor there.
The Direct Market has basically flushed that shit out of the mainstream. Marvel fucked up, flooded the market with hashtag books, and since comic shops are the customer in the Direct Market, they got mad at Marvel for giving them unsellable drek. In turn, Marvel cuts their losses, keeps only the successful hashtag titles, cans the rest, fires the Editor in Chief, brings in a new guy, and the system continues as it has for the last thirty years.
However, I don't consider that a win. All I wanted was good comics. I wasn't getting good comics before the sjw shit and I'm more than likely not going to get good comics now. Nothing has fundamentally changed.

Would it save television from streaming though? They may have a few more hits and improved ratings, but people are still going to be steadily migrating to streaming if they haven't already. I hate SJW's as much as anyone and would love to see them removed from any position of influence. Pre-Women in Refrigerators (and similar blogs) you would not get in trouble for daring to not treat female characters with kid gloves, or other content that would offend blogger's and social media activists' sensibilities. But guess what? They were let into the hobby, entered business end of things, and now too many editorial decisions are made based on feedback from selected websites and groups on social media.
Burning most of American comic book industry and building something new and improved is the best long term option.

>They have the ultimate control of what is kept and removed from the book, and who gets hired.
If that were true then Eddie Berganza would've been shit-canned from DC long before 2017.
With the editorial claim, I'm assuming you mean Heather Antos, the editor in the infamous "Milkshake" photo. She's an assistant editor, which means that all of her decisions have to be approved by actual editors. In addition, she only oversees four titles, none of which are tentpoles, and one of them, Gwenpool, is getting canned this Wednesday.
Here's the thing: I want there to be an sjw conspiracy in comics. If there were an sjw conspiracy in comics, then Marvel would double down on their unsellable hashtag books and bring down the entire industry. Comic shops would close all over the country due to the loss of over half their revenue. Without the shops, DC will find making comics unsustainable and massively downsize. Diamond would file for bankruptcy. The entire Direct Market would collapse if Marvel really believed the social justice bullshit. It would be glorious.
But no, that isn't case. It was just a fucking trend Marvel chased and now they're abandoning it as they right the ship, something I called way back in 2014.

Comicsgate was never a thing. Comic journalists made it up because they desperately want their own gamergate to fight against. They really need the views and the relevancy such a conflict would bring them. They so want to be part of the vidya sjw clique it's pathetic.
The only other people advocating for it were Shitty Web Comics, but they were retarded ass casuals.
For the Marvel "Doubling Down", that's actually an interesting story of how stupid the comic industry is. Marvel saw some success with their proto-hashtag books, bringing in desperately needed new readers. So Marvel, being the geniuses they are, thought it was a good idea to drown out these new readers by flooding them with more books and cross-overs that they never wanted. They hoped they could turn those new readers into "Marvel Zombies" and solve the dwindling readership problem overnight. Which leads us to Marvel's current situation.
It'll probably go down as one of the monumentally stupid decisions in comics history, like the DC Explosion/Implosion, and Marvel causing the Great Comic Book Crash of 1993.

Yeah because there's nothing I admire more in a superhero than curling up in a fetal position instead of fighting the enemy BECAUSE VILLAINS ARE SO SCARY AND I'M LIKE LITERALLY SHAKING
No.974789
>>974783
But that was actually a really great character flaw for Jessica Cruz in the early Green Lantern comics. It was never because "The villains were so scary," it was because she was just a scared girl who thought she was way the fuck out of her league and had no idea what to do. Though as much as I liked it, it works a lot better on a characters whose superpowers literally depend on being self-confident.
No.974795

I tend to gravitate toward heroes that have a stronger resolve, but yeah, I'll admit that Jessica Cruz seems to be more organically written than something Marvel would turn out with. I probably wouldn't trust that character in a solo movie, because Jessica and Muslim-Bro played off each other really well. Even taking the last five years of "SJW" stuff out of the equation, understand that Marvel has been declining in every way for DECADES now. They haven't listened to fans or truly revitalized the industry (let alone done anything innovative, different, or truly great) in DECADES. They didn't listen to fan or market response in the '90s, when they were losing 100,000s of fans and customers per month. Why would they listen now? They've NEVER listened, even when objectively better, smarter, and fairer people were in charge.

I think he's exaggerating it a bit with the "Defeat Galactus" thing, but I can see the ring choosing her as a long term investment. Think about it, if you give the ring to someone like Jessica, who is an emotional wreck, they'll either crack under the pressure or they'll come out polished on the other side. Speaking purely pragmatically, what's the worst that could theoretically happen if one of the lanterns out there isn't cut out for it? They either resign or are killed in duty, and you assign someone else. If they make it through it all, you potentially have a lantern who has had their willpower refined and cultivated into something potentially powerful, simply because they had a lot to grow through.

Marvel just announced that Sentry is being brought back, and new series will be written by Lemire.
>“The Sentry is a fascinating character,” Lemire tells ComicBook.com “I absolutely loved the original Sentry series by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee when it first came out, so I jumped at the chance to write the character. The Sentry has a lot of emotional depth and a lot for me to dig into in terms of the psychology of the character. He is immensely powerful and has the potential to be one of the greatest and most important heroes in the Marvel Universe, but he is constantly undermined by his own dark side and his own self-doubt.”
>“You cannot have The Sentry without the Void,” Lemire says. "But what I was very conscious of was not simply retelling the same stories that had been told in the past with Sentry and Void. I want to see their relationship and their characters evolve and go in new directions.”

Most of them died off with the collapse of the 80's black and white indie boom. They were definitely a separate scene to the indies- indies always tried to duplicate the Big Two, more cape books, just usually a little edgier, imitation Metal Hurlant SF and fantasy, and a lot of furries, back when we used to call them "funny animals". The true undergrounds, the counter-culture of the 60's and 70's, sexually explicit, politically charged, and vehemently against everything DC and Marvel, was collateral damage when the bubble burst.
There's still the minicomic and Zine scenes, they carry on some of the momentum of that voice of dissent, but they come from a more Punk sensibility, just an angry kid with a Xerox. Undergrounds were usually more like a handful of college age stoners with a printing press. I wish there was an equivalent Webcomic movement, but all we get is Calarts pozzle and porn, and the porn is the best part.

No. The first step was probably the comic code. It turned comics from a medium with diverse stories for many demographics into 80% capes and kid oriented medium. Doing something like that to any medium is bound to cripple it in the long term.
>Batman 89 was the first big Comic movie to be successful. Was the movie industry to blame?
You forgot about Superman films. And I doubt that movie industry is to blame. For some reason comics, unlike books, do not get a boost in popularity when they are adapted. Besides, currently Disney, WBs, and Fox are the ones helping to keep comic publishers afloat.

While it might be unfair to lump a older character like Hawkeye with the rest of these, they're all from recently cancelled series. Hawkeye was in Occupy Avengers. Quentin Quire/Kid Omega was in the Jean Grey series. And the nig with the faggy facial piercings is Fuse, who is from Thompson's Girl Hawkeye series and is Kate's boyfriend. It's all the stars of the woke/diversity books no one wanted or bought in one book!
At least the original WCA had regular Avengers in their line up. This is just scrapping together leftover shit and handing to a hack who has never had a hit.

They've lost a customer for life. I can't look at these characters the same way anymore. They've all been cucked beyond belief and made way too shameful for me to ever respect again.
