What? I thought Bruce Banner was constantly ashamed of the Hulk, that's his defining character trait. He has immense power, but he himself is always afraid of it, so it comes down between knowing how to use it rather than flaunting it or being proud of it. The Hulk himself is supposed to a character that's worried about people's perceptions, he doesn't want to be seen as a monster. If his anger isn't bottled or controlled, it kills people, it hurts people. But his anger is also a tool for defeating enemies who wish genuine harm and danger. The Hulk was such a monumental character for this balancing act between dichotomies. Man and Monster, Intellect and Strength, etc. This seems to go against everything the character or even nature of the situation is about. And frankly, those panels are written so poorly I can't really try to see what they're getting at. It comes off as both forced and extremely vague, but maybe that's because I lack context.

Not only is the art horrendous and the writing inexcusably bad, but they've failed to understand a very basic aspect of the Hulk.. and it's not that he's some kind of Cronenbergian flesh monster. The reason they try to satiate and work around the Hulk is because he can't be killed. They've tried killing him, repeatedly. They've tried countless things over the decades to stop the Hulk from being a threat, but they've also been in many situations where the Hulk was one of the most heroic and useful creatures in the universe.
Trying to punish the Hulk doesn't work. Holding Banner accountable for the things the Hulk does never solved anything. Banner isn't privileged because he's a smarty pants white guy. He's someone who doesn't want to be in the situation he's in, but also recognizes that the Hulk is a thing that is unfortunately necessary. He's a force of nature that can be used to save the world, not something that is understood or forgiven.
