Hillenburg managed to create a show that was funny and relevant beyond just the scope of watching something silly on TV. It started out that way when we were kids and we identified with all the overwhelming optimism of Spongebob but as we got older, wiser to the ways of the world, we came to identify more with Squidward's cynicism and even if we had changed, the show was still funny because it took what was real and exaggerated it to a hundred like all good cartoons should. Thanks, Hillenburg, for creating something great.
