All their movies have been so terribly mediocre and their characters always look so dead and inexpressive. When I went to see the Lorax I was expecting something on par with Horton, then I realized Blue Sky Studios wasn't behind it. Everything they make is so terribly dull, but fuck do I hate Sing and I can't bare the thought of what they might do to the Grinch.

Why can't they go with a new IP and build that up for the "New Generations"? The thing that made Shrek great was the good humor, endearing characters, and a memorable villain. A reboot of a series that's already five movies deep is never going to work because any greatness it manages to have will be entirely ripped off of the original.

It is easier to get an existing IP, rather than put the time/money into something original. The better question is: How the hell do they expect to do Shrek in a post-Shrek world? The concept of Disney Fairy Tale Parody has been done to death. What can possibly be done with the property to make it stand out?

Calling it now. It's going to be one of those "Literally Did Nothing Wrong" villain perspective movies, starring Farquad. The Kingdom will be an absolute mess during the previous king's rule, with no functioning tax code, a shoddy army, and a porous border that dangerous fairy tale creatures just waltz through, resulting in an average human's life being filled with starvation, uncertainty and kidnapped children. We'll be shown some of the more original bad-end fairytale elements, like a Wolf that preys on the naive and the elderly, a Witch that lures children with candy to eat them, and Farquad's mother: a woman kept and raped by dwarves. Farquad will have to kill the king, seize power, and impose Fantasy Sharia in order to prevent everything from falling to ruin due to the corruption of the fairy tale creatures. The original story of Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona will be more of a background thing, similar to Frodo and Sam carrying the ring while Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas do the cool stuff. Farquad will be near the triumphant end of his Day of the Rope plans when the original plot gets him killed, and the story will have a tragic ending as we see the "liberated" townsfolk embrace the fairytale monsters and the nation falls apart, to be invaded and conquered by their neighbor, Far Far Away.

You are putting too much thought into it. Fairy tale and magical creatures will be just stand-ins for immigrants and LGBTQBBQ, and humans will all be cartoonishly evil. Featuring voices of Seth Rogen, John Boyega, Kumail Nanjiani, and Meryl Streep.

Why is USA media so creatively bankrupt?
No.1034601
>>1034578
The same reason Jap media, Hollywood and vidya are so creatively bankrupt—marketing and shitty business practices. At least with anime there's generally more room, and with printed works there's even more. Despite that, as Miyazaki rightfully complained, a lot of creators are stunted—you cannot tell a car from a broken car if all you've known is one or the other, and that's the main issue with them, besides, as I said, marketing (why take risks when what you're selling is already making boatloads of cash?). Also, see Plato's Allegory of the Cave.

Yep. Although I think Shrek 2 was the superior film. The problem is why the Fairy Godmother locked Fiona in a tower since childhood? Why wait all those years to have her son fetch her instead of keeping her at her parents place then sending the dragon to kidnap her when she was old enough to marry so her son could come in and rescue her before anyone else could beat him to the punch? How did the prince expect to beat the dragon with no help from his mumsy? … Never mind. Shrek 1 is the only good film.

Wasted trips.
Shrek probably offered her someone who actually cared for her, at the same time being someone who even if she didn't know it they could relate to. Farquad was a manlet trying to marry her just for king status and in a medieval marriage style no less.
The thing about medieval marriage is that it's a boring chore both men and women hated because it was just something they had to do as opposed to actual love for someone. Farquad probably couldn't offer Fiona much she couldn't already get herself and Shrek probably could.
