Try the share thread and Vola before making a thread, they might have some stuff uploaded. Also All Star Superman.

Read it years ago but it was before I had an appreciation for the character so I'll probably go ahead and read it again. Looks like New Krypton and TAS are the only things in the share thread.

Cool, I haven’t read any of these so I’ll start with the oldest and work my way up. Also, was the animated series decent?

Yes, you should give it a watch when possible.

>Superman The Animated Series

Compared to BTAS and JL/JLU, STAS was crap. They spent three episodes establishing Superman, going only five episodes before they have to introduce Lobo, and only one episode after that before they start including NEW GODS stuff. Instead of soaring, the series limps, hampered by their terrible decision to base their Superman on Bryne and Timm's lack of direction for the character. Really, the reason given for why they included the NEW GODS was because they had trouble coming up with plots for Superman.

Now compare that with what was done with Superman in JL/JLU and they got new writers in to work with the character. Superman gets a more concrete personality and they finally make Luthor a Superman level villain who can carry entire seasons.

I liked Superman the animated series but it wasn't as good as Btas or JL/JLU. Still better than smallville though. Clancy Brown was the best Lex.

As for comics is would recommend the Lois and Clarke mini series that came right before rebirth. Red Son is decent.

I liked Smallville and find it pretty comfy. At least it’s better than new DC shows… but when an episode gets bad it gets really bad.

one episode that still boils my blood is when Lana and Chloe basically fall all over this one guys dick, Clark warns them he’s dangerous, they don’t listen, then they blame Clark for everything at the end after Clark saves them from him.

 No.1028766

>>1028725

Smallville started out ok but I feel like it overstayed its welcome and the quality went downhill hard. It ended feeling more like a shitty soap opera than a superhero show. The comic continuation wasn't bad though. Of course it helped that they actually had him be superman.

 No.1028827

It's not even a Superman comic, but Astro City Issue #1 is maybe one of the best depiction of Superman ever.

>>1028725

Smallville was enjoyable in a weird way because of how much they completely ignored the actual Superman mythos while paying a sort of weird tribute to it. The only real problem with the show was the producer's love with the Lana actress, who they literally thought was the real star of the show. Without that bullshit it probably could have been pretty good and actually worth recommending.

 No.1028837

>>1028827

Which is weird considering nobody but the producer liked her.

I'll add Whatever Happened To The Man Of Tomorrow, and the Fleischer brothers Superman cartoons from the 40's, at least the early ones before it was turned into war propaganda.

I also have a soft spot for the John Byrne reboot and Jerry Ordway's run on the art, even if the writing was fucking woeful.

 No.1029074

I recommend Superman: Strength written by Scott McCloud and the Elseworld mini Secret Identity by Kurt Busiek

 No.1029090

If you liked Kingdom Come you'll probably enjoy Red Son too

>been reading a few of these

>can't help but think about people saying Superman is a boring or "bad" character

You know, you have to wonder if people dislike Superman so much because his character challenges them. Take away the powers and he's just a guy who helps people in need of help. He's less about fighting crime and more about fighting for the well being of others.

 No.1030466

>>1030465

People don't like Superman because of the movies and shows of the past never being as great as they want. They were viewed as cheesy schlock or just missing the mark compared to Batman media. That sentiment is then parroted through the same crowd of people who think Aquaman is a lame throwaway character who's only power if talking to fish. Normalfags don't read comics.

Cool, thank you. Gonna go ahead and knock that one out today.

So far Up, Up, and Away has easily been my favorite. I think that one will be the hardest to top. The ending was just so damn good.
