Interesting story. New worldbuilding and lore stuff that deepens and widens the Marvel universe instead of accidentally tripping over itself. Some really cool paneling and a really striking use of black and red. Not crazy about the swirly-face symbiote design or the way that the Venom symbiote looks like a weird mannequin in some panels. Gunpouchsword Venom is a little weird too.

It's really making the best outta the best writing Aaron did for Thor before he lost his mind as well as doing the eldritch god thing better than the Carnage run did. Plus giving Venom more shapeshifting powers like giant wings is pretty cool.

Hated it. Twists the entire origin story into some retarded Child of Elder God bullshit. It contradicts every other story line, most notably Agent Venom, Secret Wars and First Host which also came out this year and turned out a lot better imo.
The only saving grace is the art.

One of the elder shaper gods is dead by the hand of concentrated speck of the Void.
Klyntar are vulnerable to fire and vibrations not because of their biological structure (lots and lots of tiny parts working as one, similar to nanotech, so it makes sense to be vulnerable to AoE attacks), but because they were "forged" from the blood a god damned Celestial. It took Doom several years and the combined power of the Beyonder, innumerable Doombots and a fucking Infinity Gauntlet to defeat 5 Celestials.
Knull could kill a Celestial just like that, but falling on a planet is what sent him into a comatose state.
Grendel is now a symbiote dragon instead of half-giant.
Planet of Klyntar is literally made out of Klyntar, they somehow survived for thousands of years without feeding for a fucking planet to form around them, on which we didn't see any life despite symbiotes needing a host organism to survive.
The whole cleansing ritual makes no sense anymore since the planet is made out of pissed off klyntar.

>Klyntar are vulnerable to fire and vibrations not because of their biological structure (lots and lots of tiny parts working as one, similar to nanotech, so it makes sense to be vulnerable to AoE attacks), but because they were "forged" from the blood a god damned Celestial.
Don't use the K-word, they're Symbiotes. All that mumbo-jumbo tech bullshit you're spouting is headcanon which is never stated in any of the comics.
>It took Doom several years and the combined power of the Beyonder, innumerable Doombots and a fucking Infinity Gauntlet to defeat 5 Celestials.
Damn, I guess Knull is stronger than Doom. How does that contradict anything since he's a new character and a literal god?
>Knull could kill a Celestial just like that, but falling on a planet is what sent him into a comatose state.
Yeah, what's the problem? Two separate things. Does being able to stab someone with a knife mean you can no longer get hit over the head with a baton and knocked out?
>Planet of Klyntar is literally made out of Klyntar, they somehow survived for thousands of years without feeding for a fucking planet to form around them, on which we didn't see any life despite symbiotes needing a host organism to survive.

Venom: Annual!
it sucks, unfortunately. The Black Cat and Juggernaut stories are good, but the framing in the bar doesn't make sense, and the Wolverine story is retarded. The comic is a continuity nightmare, with Gargan not making much sense at all, and Venom pretending to be a guy who saw the fight between Juggernaut and Venom, and then? I don't even understand it, tbh.
No.1030597
Like, there's things about this comic I like, but I think the problem really comes down to whoever edited it. It just doesn't fit together at all. I like that they brought back Michelinie to write the Black Cat story, I like James Stokoe's art, and I like the concept of the bar set-up and Cates is a good writer, but I don't think all the various writers communicated at all because the stories don't fit into eachother.
No.1030598
>>1030597
Oh, and then Gargan saying Venom never even ate anyone when he was Venom he ate a ton of people. It's weird, also that Gargan apparently doesn't remember that Brock is Venom again, even though he was a recurring villain in Costa's series.
No.1030601
>>1030597
>>1030598
I was just thinking that. Gargan was Venom and even fought Venom recently. He shouldn't be this in the dark about him or have this kind of costume. It's another case of writers having no communication or respect for continuity. All too common nowadays.
No.1030608
>>1030601
It's really weird when you realize that both Costa's Venom, and Cates' Venom were edited by the same guy, Devin Lewis. I can understand writers not having time to read every comic in the world, especially Cates' since he's writing like five books right now (Cosmic Ghost Rider, Venom, Guardians of the Galaxy, Death of the Inhumans) but that's why they have editors. But then you look at Lewis' feed on twitter, and all he does is bitch about Trump and politics. So I guess that's the problem, even when you get good writers, the editors can still fuck everything up by not doing their jobs.
No.1030611
>>1030608
I keep saying it and I keep being prove right that editors working in comics right now aren't doing their jobs at all. Still though, a writer should be up to speed on just the quick summarization of where a character is at in their current stories or history. Just a quick scan over that Marvel database would give them all the info they'd need to at least do these quick cameos right.
