I liked it in spite of many problems, production-wise.
The good news is it wasn't preachy about its diversity. In addition to the racebending, they turned Bow into discount Sokka, which I found entertaining. Compared to the original show, the characters have stronger personalities and actual facial expressions. Catra and Adora's relationship was the most fleshed-out part of the show and made for some outstanding moments in a couple of episodes, including the entirety of episode 11. They're also plumbing for some DeepestLore, which is nice, but it treads way way to close to Avatar in my book. Spinnerella, the super super fat fuck, only has about 30 seconds of screentime, thank god. Hordak looks and sounds like a bad dude outta Teen Titans, and Sea Hawk steals the show each time he hams it up. The music does its job, but a couple tracks were memorable, and one even sounded like what can be found in Halo.
The neutral news, for me, is the racebending–while it's prevalent, they don't fellate themselves over it. There's an Indian princess, an East Asian princess, and Bow, and Shadow Weaver seems to be voiced by a WOC. To me, it just feels like a whole new IP at this point, so I don't mind, but YMMV.
The bad news is the QUALITY. Coloring is very flat, motion has little weight to it, some characters are off-model frequently (Entrapta's eyes seemed too high on her face much of the time), the cinematography sucked the drama out of momentous reveals and Big Damn Hero moments, and many scenes end very abruptly.
In conclusion, Catra is best catgirl.
